73 K20....crossmember time

You ragging on my setup haha!

No...I think. I need to find the xj shaft. Just put the stock crap back in so I can position the shock hoops just right.

I forget which years xj fit.
You need to double check the box spline size. Someplace in there the GM boxes use a larger drive input ( my 72 was larger) The 77 has a smaller size that the XJ will work with. Let me go measure the 2

OK well I do know that my steering box is for an 85...

This damn thing would be done by now if it wasn't for my stupid civic. I think she shit the bed. Just hemorrhaged it's oil on the street and now it smokes like crazy.

Anyways I suspect the halo will need some grinding...Maybe I'll get lucky.

Where's the oil coming from?

Well I noticed it's been using oil like mad. I thought maybe the pcv was plugged as it was leaking from every seal. I was about to put that in and noticed it puked oil from the driver side of the motor. I'll look at it in a bit. I also pulled the plugs and saw #3 was wet. Hopefully it's not a cracked ring.

Coolant looks fine...not a blown head gasket.

Hopefully it's an easy fix. I find it odd that it's never smoked and now it's like a BBQ.

I'm ready to take it to pick not pull for a $1000 if it looks bad.

Do a compression test. Oil leak is the main or cam seal likely.

Thats what I'm thinking. I got the pcv to throw in there for fun. Seemed like the old one was plugged.

Are those seals reasonable to replace?

Getting the pcv out was like pulling the crankshaft without removing the engine.

For the main you need to pull all the belts and the crank pulley, t-belt covers and then the t-belt.

The cam seal is easier, pull the valve cover, t-belt cover, t-belt timing gear and the cam cap.

The smoke out the tailpipe is the bigger concern. Are you getting an excessive amount crank case pressure out the valve cover port?

Yeah the smoke is a bit more worrying. I'm not sure how to check that. Put new pcv in, start it and see if it's pushing air out the oil cap?

Yep, pop the oil cap off or the vent port off the valve cover and see if you feel positive pressure. Need to do a compression test either way....
