73 k5 blank slate

I will look in my books and see....I'd like to know the answer too. I'm pretty sure the roll bar was optional but you'd think the holes would be there whether they had the bar or not.
Yeah you would think so, I can tell you looking at how these were drilled, someone just assembled an after market roll bar and just drilled through where the flanges happened to be sitting. The passenger side locations will have to be filled and slightly relocated

And the answer is yes, they were an option:

BAR Padded Roll..$86.00

This book indicates they were a factory option, I know some were dealer options...maybe somebody with an unmolested 1973 without the roll bar could answer the question for sure.

It would be interesting to see how it's supposed to be bolted in after seeing this one

I am not sure about ‘73, but in ‘75, the roll bar was optional, and not included if you did not buy the hardtop. If you did buy the optional hardtop, it included the roll bar.

Seemed almost backwards to me.

I would make plates with rounded corners and weld nuts to the bottom of the plate and then weld the plate to the floor in a way to spread the load on the sheet metal. Then bolt the bar to that.

Is it possible the 73 was sold without one because the way these holes were drilled.... well I'll just say it's pretty much consistent with the rest of what the po did, lol
Am pretty sure 74 was the first year for an OEM roll bar.
My 74 didn't even have the bar but had the provision.
My 73 had an aftermarket setup.

Yeah, with no top you'd want a roll bar. I've looked pretty good and no sign this one came with a factory bar. The way the bar was mounted was crooked and haphazard .

That was my first thought too. Looking at how the holes were drilled on drivers side anyway, two went through a thick crossbrace so I wanted to keep that strength. Need to up the heat on my welds, too. The po missed the brace on the passenger side so I'll redo those holes

ive only tried to replace floor skins in an old FJ55. good times right there...

what i remember most is all the black boogers and rusty specs all over the toilet and shower pan!

when its done you will have that peace of mind knowing things are solid and tight
