Haha ok so no powerstroke. I'll have to keep my eyes open for a Dodge. I wish ext cabs were more available

There expensive but really the best in my opinion. Dont be put off on all the morons who owe big money still...those are the guys trying to get $40k for a 2003. Ive been eyeballing a few 2012s up in Oregon for about $32k with super low miles.

I will only buy a manual so that narrows down the field a lot.

Ya a manual would be sweet. I haven't looked up in Oregon yet but have been looking around the north state. You guys think no on a duramax?

There awesome that way, especially the newer ones with the jake brake.

I would buy a duramax if it came with a manual and a straight axle. The manual ones are next to impossible to find. I think only federal trucks had them. Anyways i cant do ifs. One thing that swayed me towards the dodge was if you look on the highway at what the tow trucks/private towing guys are using...you'll find 90% are dodges.

I'm kinda partial to the dodges. I had an 11 cc long bed and the space was awesome. I don't see the need for a megacab. My wife has a cc hemi too. To be honest it pulls like an ox even though it's a half ton. Won't haul 10k but I've pulled around 8ish and it didn't mind it.

My dads 2012 Denali duramax is awesome. And we have yet to find any issues with the ifs or suspension in general. It pulls way better than my Uncles 12 Cummins. Also, I'm not a fan of how the Dodges are built. We sell way too many parts for those. Besides the engine, not a lot of quality put into them. Fenders and doors are starting to get seam rust. Interiors are pretty crappy.

I've rented a 2014 Dodge and 2016 Dodge CCLB cummins. Both did great at pulling the Blazer to Moab. The older one had soft suspension in back though and bounced under the tongue weight more. Last week's Dodge handed the weight much better.

Last years Ford CCLB Diesel pulled just fine as well but didn't handle the downhills as easily as the Dodge. The standard interior in the rental was complete garbage. The sync feature didn't work, even when plugged in and the speakers were HORRENDOUS. Dodge worked flawlessly and sounded good.

My Dad's '06 CCLB Dmax handles the towing well too, but I wish it had the new exhaust brakes like the new trucks. It doesn't have the massive power the new trucks seem to have but it pulls without problems. Not a fan of the IFS and tire wear.

All were 4x4

I don't have much experience with the duramax or powerstoke variants but we towed my truck back this weekend using my brother's 2012 ram 2500 CC with the Cummins and it was great. Cruise control at 70, no problem. Hills and mountain passes were taken with ease. He does have an edge controller which I'm sure helps, but still its stout and comfortable. Imo you don't need a mega cab as the crew is plenty big and easily fits 4-5 adults and stuff.

You know what blows my mind??? This is a gm truck website but everyone is willing to explore their options and come up with what best suits their needs. There's a lot of pride thrown around on the net these days but this is by far one of the best places to be. But dodge is still the best because I say so... Jk our shop duramax towpig is a beast with somewhere around 300k on it, our tree service 98 12 valve has over 300k on it and is always dragging around way more than it should be, and a couple friends have new powerjokes that are pretty amazing even in stock form. I say go on a test drive frenzy and don't stop until you find something you fall in love with.

I love that about this site! I can get all sorts of opinions and real answers not just go with a chevy like you said @F.S.F.W

I'm just goingoing to keep my eyes open and test drive what I can in a few weeks

I greatly appreciate all the responses from everyone too!
