Negatory, I wouldn't pay half that for a VE engine and 2wd. that might only be a 3spd auto. Pretty sure the 47rh came out in '94.

Well I guess you could assume, but I like to read.
It says 2wd automatic.
:doah:Just call me mr. oblivious.

Luke can you school me on them...I would only be interested in the non electronic type 5.9's

And yeah if a really good deal came along, I might jump at it, as I feel I will have to get into the BBC to some extent in the CC as it is now.

The 6BT cummins are mechanical Injection non electronic up to early '98. '89-93 are VE rotary Bosch mechanical pumps. '94-'98.0 are P7100 inline Bosch mechanical pumps.

Both are decent pumps, the p-pumps being far more sought after for Hotrod-ability. But a good clean VE is a dead reliable pump too. I just personally have no use for a VE so I wouldn't pay sweet f-all for one.
A p-pumped 24v valve is the pinnical imo, but since the oem never built one, again we're on our own to customize.

so what in your opinion would it take to make this 20,000 mi stock 93 into a 600ft lb towing engine?

on a VE, Not much more than pump mods. to get into 300hp 600ftlbs. anything more you'll need some hardware.

Dave just a thought here. Keiths cummins is a 92 or 93, VE pump.

I will admit he had a heavier load than I did but on almost all the hills I had to slow down. I could have passed him easily.

I am not sure that would be the same if we were hauling the same load but I bet that 454 would stay right with just about any stock VE pump motor.

Although he did get 15 mpg most of the way

seems there is a lot more to it than just throwing a motor in though Adam....

so 600ft lbs would be the minimum I would want if I did this swap, and at least 12 pulling the Maiden and trailer (10-11K #) would be good to. In the real world with a non overdrive trans and 4.10's is this a pipe dream?
What are we talking for pump mods costwise?

Eric, I'm sure the 454 will do fine after I tweak it a bit...gotta find out where all the oil is going, and decide what extent of engine work it will need...that will be a determining factor of whether a Cummins is an option or not. As I stated in the BART thread...spending thousands to get better mileage on a truck that might only get driven a couple thousand miles a year don't appeal to me.

pump mods on a ve for a fuel pin and gov spring, maybe a reseal kit while your there. couple hundred bucks.

http://www.dennytperformance.com/products.htm great guy

http://www.citydiesel.net/governor-spring-kit-3k-rpm-p-83.html (never used these, just the first name on google search)

Some adjustments at the pump. intake exhaust. maybe play with the timing a bit. you should be around 300hp with a very peppy fun little truck. maybe some mild sticks and a he351 or similar small turbo. would be a very fun ve engine.
if its the same tranny that was in my 91.5, it should be the a518. which is an overdrive 727. non lockup. would be ok..., the price isnt terrible, but its nothing great. depends on the market in your location. i'd offer maybe 900-1000 for that setup, assuming the engine really does only have 20k on it. but out here $1500 is bout the going rate for a ve, usually 2k or more for a p pumped 12ver.

Oh that's right the 4spd non lockup trans. 47rh is the lockup. If you want a shot at real economy you need the lockup, or a stick.

Denny T is big in the VE pump stuff.

But that link to the city diesel gsk you put up is for a p-pump. VE governor assembly is entirely different than a p-pump.

yup, 47rh was mech lockup 94-95
47re was elec lockup 96-03

OK, well not knowing sh!t about diesels in general, I'm going to talk with a local diesel fanatic...also moving this to my BART build thread....

Threads successfully merged...gonna say that was a first for me. Not terribly hard.

Appreciate the efforts Rene'

NOw a little more digging on this Cummins situation:

I guess I'm getting more confused the more I read about these Cummins 12v's. I gather the 93VE pumped engine would take some $$$$ to get it where I want it to be (500-600 tq) but not so says Luke? I think the 94-98 P pumped engines are the ones to get, 500tq right out of the gate, nice for what I need, but hard to find around here.
Other considerations, I still got no overdrive, and keeping the cruise rpm down below 2000 would be ideal, so a T400/w gearvendors($$$) would be needed, or a A518 BUILT ($$$$), as I hear they don't last too long behind these P pumped engines, and for me a Manual is out.
Also want my A/C functional and would have to fab/convert I'm not sure what yet to make that happen. Other considerations are cooling system, PS system, exhaust, mounts, etc etc....lots to think about, and I know there are guys who've done it here, that I need to check into more of those builds as well. I really need to wait and see what needs to be done with the BBC in it now, and validate its condition.

Ok maybe 300hp is a little bit of a reach with stock injectors. But 250-275hp is definately doable. Keep in mind, rule of thumb for torque curve on mechanical cummins is torque to hp is 2.5 to 1. Vp engines are closer to 2.0 to 1. I'm not sure how HPCR engines rank. But at 250hp you're looking at over 600ftlbs. That's on stock gear.
