wondering if there is a simple way to reduce the turning radius of this truck...? can you change the steering ratio on the knuckles?
Can the suspension handle a tighter turn without interference?

You could probably turn in the steering stops a little...but short of removing some wheelbase I don't think you're going to see much improvement. Wait, does a 2WD have steering stops?

I know my 83 GMC longbox doesn't turn tight either. :dunno:

I don't believe so Rene'....just the A arms, and that is what I was wondering, how to increase the the amount of travel the steering box, arm, draglink, tie rod, etc can travel side to side?

I'll just have to keep doing 10 point U turns then?

Except a ford. The ford duallies that have a Dana super60 in the front have exceptionally tight turning radius. That's because it is 6" wider than a standard Dana 60 and uses 1550 knuckle joints that have an operating angle of almost 45*

That was a selling feature of the F450 trucks is they can put steer any 1 ton. And it's wicked in parking lots. I can put my dually anywhere usually first shot.

Rear steer, you'd only need a few degrees to see significant benefit.

EDIT, and yeah, its an aircraft carrier....

that would be fun with a 10K trailer on the hitch!

You have to remember that is GM 1st truck IFS developed from the 60s.

It was fairly stout but lacks the comforts we have become used to with todays cars and especially trucks.

Bump steer, camber gain, Ackerman angle. Roll center, turning radius.

Unfortunatly there isn't just one thing you can do.

However,..stock drift cars increase their turning radius by essentially lengthing the arm coming off the knuckle. But I'm not sure how or what would be effected if this was done to your front end

I'd pay good money to see that.

I wish someone could have filmed my slide, with my big rig and a 53' trailer.
I was empty and trying to get thru before the red light, on a left turn.
It was raining and slick roads.
The weight of the trailer pushed my rear as soon as I twitched the steering so I countered and I did a drift.
The scariest and best feeling I ever had driving big rigs.:D

pics or it didn't happen...:pimp:

that must have been a butt pucker moment! :eek1:
