77 C20 hauler to crawler

Borrowed our mini for the weekend to load a big block I sold (which may be a no show) and decided to move my donor cab a little closer to my work area before I steal the passenger floorpan and trans hump. Still waiting on some extra cash for parts so now is a great time to take care of some things that won't cost much or I have the parts for. I could slap it together and be done but I plan on using it daily so I want it to be right.

Upon further investigation I found a big ghetto fab patch in the donor floor. PO did a hack job when he was "buildin' himself a huh-in rig". :doah: I was also getting sick of tripping over junk and having to move eight things around just to get in and out of my other garage door. So the donor cab is on the trailer with a bunch of other junk.

I was going to use this cab for my next project but I changed my mind. The cab is in great shape but the frame was hacked up by the same guy that hacked the other cab. This was huh-in rig 2.0 but he moved and I bought all the crap he had. Some good stuff but mostly junk. Anyway... This was going to become my 2wd cummins powered tow rig on a 90s 3500HD chassis but that ain't happening anytime soon so I'm robbing the front doors, front seat, floorpan, and trans hump. Might even snag the cab lights. When I'm ready to build a tow rig I think I'll start with one that's going to take less work.

Screw it mode is the best way to clean
That's exactly what I said right before I slammed the bucket through the front windshield! I tried to peal the roof open to cram some more junk inside of it but I was worried about folding my trailer in half. I have a problem with sitting on stuff that is almost worth keeping. The scrap yard probably thinks I'm running a chop shop! FYI you can fit a 4 door geo tracker in a 5 1/2 foot truck bed if you chop it into small enough pieces.

Didn't get anything "done" today but I did do a lot. Lol
Bout crapped my pants when I found this. Oil inside my header... I was still on panic mode but I kinda knew what it was. Cheapo moroso leaky valve cover+exhaust leak=poopy in my trousers

It's probably just from the header bearings.

Before I tore into my engine it had the worst valve cover leak. Wherever I went came with a plume of white smoke hahah!

Dropped the 2wd NV4500 and figured out why it didn't like to go into gear at idle. Pilot bearing was toast. This is why you don't trust your "friends" mechanical abilities. The more I look at the scabbed together stuff and booger welds on this stuff the more I want to scream. But on an ok note (still undecided bout this) I did find that the clutch he put in is a full ceramic. Not real sure if that's going to work good in a crawler? Any thoughts on that?

Got my donor floor cut out. It's not the right color but I'll figure that out later I guess. Also cut the rocker out so I can access the bottom of the A pillar. Figured this was a great time to do my sliders also.

Might post a thread in the general forum asking about it
I've always run standard plates

Oh and one more thing... Since I'm no longer building my CC I can rob all the AC parts and use them on my 77 as it was an AC truck. I've finally came to the realization that I have no desire to finance another truck with all the creature comforts I want, such as AC fuel injection, a comfy seat, so I'm just going to build this one with all those goodies. Also going to use the doors and on my 77.

Yeah it sucks!!!! I even put the nice gaskets on them and they STILL leak! Stinks in the cab and made a mess underneath. It's amazing how much of a mess a half quart can make. I almost hated driving this thing. If it didn't run as good as it did I would have lit it on fire and parked it on the railroad tracks. Exhaust leaks were horrible, carb stumbled and coughed if you didn't ease into it, had to go easy into 3rd gear or it would grind, and then a stupid valve cover leak.
