77 Sub, my Qjet finally took a dump, so I ordered a rebuilt thru reputable mfg. 3 rebuilt units later & still junk. Got Holley, can’t get running ?

Sounds like your issue may not be the carb. Could be ignition or valve timing or worse.

Almost sounds like the fuel pump is sucking air due to cracked or holy rubber lines in the fuel delivery side of things. I'm curious if the engine runs if you spoon-feed it fuel from a can of carb cleaner or priming the carb through the vent.

1st time I primed it thru carb it ran good, then died . I bought a new battery-wow those prices jumped ! so I took it out , put on trickle charger it’s taken 2 days to go green. I’ve got fuel pressure regulator at 6 psi which Holley wants. With return line to fuel pump ? Or should I put it in line before pump ? Which is how I read diagram.

It needs 6 psi to the carb at all times, so if it have a return, it’s taking the excess pressure back to the tank

I must have missed something, what are the actual symptoms?

Does it have an electric or mechanical fuel pump?

Is there a fuel pressure gauge on the regulator? Pics of the plumbing at the regulator?

If it's a mechanical pump, how do you know you have 6 psi if it won't run?

Yes, pulled the new battery & it’s taken 2 days on charging to get to green, saw it before I left for work this morning

"1st time I primed it thru carb it ran good, then died". How long did it run. 10 seconds or 10 minutes? If it ran, I doubt ignition problems. Does it start and run each time you prime it?
"I bought a new battery.....so I took it out , put on trickle charger it’s taken 2 days to go green". You needed to charge a new battery or you ran it down from trying to start it and had to charge it?
Did you make sure you have "all" the unused vacuum lines connected or capped?
Have you tried spraying starter fluid around the base of the carb/manifold interface and see if it starts, or if you have it running to see if RPMs increase (potential gasket/seal issue).
Verify the bowls have fuel in them? Should be simple enough to just rock the butterfly and see if gas is squirting into the engine. That would somewhat knockout fuel pump/delivery.

So you bought 4 carbs? Or had yours rebuilt 3 times before the Holley? The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results…..

Return line, should go to line on frame, back to tank. That line is 1/4".
I am guessing you are using an electric fuel pump and separate pressure regulator, with and return to tank. Is the mechanical pump still plumbed inline, Is the electric pump pushing fuel throught the mechanical pump?
I recommend by passing the mechanical pump.

The 1st one I had mine rebuilt, but guy didn’t tell me throttle body was too worn out till after I reinstalled-thus big vacuum leak. I then bought remfg it ran for couple weeks ( don’t know how ) then just started flooding constantly, returned for another & it had same issue right outta box. So tired this crap & got a Holley. I have mechanical pump with in-line filter & regulator. I replaced cap, rotor, ignition module, coil, spark plugs & s.p. wires.

Why a regulator with a mechanical pump? Is it getting gas? Are the bowls full after cranking?

@MrHappy please reread this entire thread and answer specific questions.

How do you know you have 6 psi of fuel pressure?

If your mechanical fuel pump is a stock type pump (vs a high pressure, high $$ performance pump) why install a regulator?

"throttle body was too worn out till after I reinstalled-thus big vacuum leak" Unless it wasnt rebuilt right I dont see how this could cause a big vacuum leak. Leaving one of the big vacuum lines open will cause a big leak. Assume you have verified every vacuum port is connected or capped and the lines connected to it arent cracked somewhere along their routes.

You said it constantly floods. I know this is a dumb question but if its an electric choke carb, do you have the wire connected? Have you verified the choke butterfly is properly/fully opening after a minute or two with just ignition power applied?

Yes it’s gas , & pump is putting out 7-9 psi . Qjet required no more than 5, & Holley requires 6. I looked everywhere for lower psi pump, couldn’t find one. Yes even after sitting for 3 days now bowls are full. It started &ran 10 seconds & hasn’t run since. Even with full charge on battery. Vacuum leak somewhere ??
