77 The Black Truck "Ratbag"

There might be some hope for the c10 yet.

Yesterday I was thinking this piece of sh!t has one more chance...I thought if I could get some leverage on the crank I will give it go. So I welded that chunk of flat bar to the lower crank pulley. I was waiting for a cow to calve in the barn when my wife texed me a said Rene Deb and Vanessa were going to show up in 15 minuets. Cool!

They showed up with Nick @bix after they were at the Reddeer swap meet.

I attached my device to the crank and gave it a pull....pft like nothing it was turning over! Colby said to me "why didn't you do that the first time" LOL!
So we did a bit of BSing some Neer drinking and it was time to milk the cows. Rene and Nick decided they wanted to play with the c10 Deb and Vanessa helped us in the barn with the cows.

By the time we were finished with the cows the boys had Gangrene kind of wanting to fire!

I have left a lot of the story out but it was very cool to have a unexpected minnie ck5 get together! Lots of laughs and a great time as usual! Thanks for coming out guys! :waytogo:

We got it turning over with the starter, and it even made starting noises. I think there is still diesel fouling the plugs and stuff, and the battery we were using wasn't super good. I don't think it's gonna take much more to get it running.

For sure! I`ll try some dry plugs and way more power to the starter!

Hows oil pressure?
Dean can you use that dist housing we used on your BBC to get oil pressure on it before spinning it anymore?
Project gangrene....love it!

Oil pressure... no clue I was in the barn... Nick was getting a diesel wash from the sparkplugless cylinders... Lol! Rene was at the wheel. Might not have even been able to see the very dirty gauge!? I guess we sure could have used that modded dizzy but.... AH not to worried about it!

If it has oil pressure it'll be fine. If it doesn't, it doesn't matter. lol. I couldn't see anything through the grime on the gauges. We did drain the old oil and diesel fuel out of it and added about 4 1/2 quarts of fresh oil before hitting the key though.

Haha exatactly!
It did get good oil though.... 15/40 Diesel grade. Might even change the filter.... If it runs. :haha:

I have a long piece of thick flat iron with two holes drilled into it the same width apart as two of the three pulley holes on a Chevrolet dampener.

Nice! Wish I would have thought of the idea sooner. I like your way... mine was a bitch to get at the bolts. But it worked.

Man wish I coulda been there for neers, bs, and comraderie!

Yeah that would have been sweet!
I wish we all could all go to the dune party!

Thanks for having me over! I haven't had a diesel shower in awhile lol  If i was closer id come wrench on it more often..Its a nice change working on something different.

Yeah, what was up with that? Every time I turned around you had one cow or the other trying to french kiss you. :ignore:

It was a lot of fun, but good lord it was a smelly ride home. Between diesel fuel and cow stuff...wow! It was a drag race to the shower!

On the 261 from my Pontiac there is no balancer bolt, so I threaded in two bolts into the balancer/pulley face and used a 2"x 1/4" flat bar 4 feet long on edge between the bolts. With a notch in the end of the bar it gave me several angular options without having to remove the water pump. I think ideal would be a mix of our ideas, a piece of sturdy bar 8" long with two holes, and weld a large nut in the middle so you can put a bar and socket on it.

Yeah, my bar doesn't use the balancer bolt. Just two of the bolts that thread into the actual balancer.

That would work too.

My bar is 8' long.

I was worried about breaking rings and stuff. A 4 foot bar kept me from getting all "viking" on it. :waytogo:

Deans 350 wasn't seized that bad. He didn't soak it with diesel long and didn't need to pull hard on the bar at all.

About two weeks with diesel...all I did was pour a gallon down the carb. And yeah it turned over super easy.

I did pull all the plugs and sprayed some wd40 in the cylinder's first and tried to turn it over with a 3 foot breaker bar on the crank balancer bolt. also tried rocking it back and forth in high gear.

It will be the weekend before I even look at it again. Covered in snow right now. Fock that sh!t.
