78 k-10 project roundup: the weed and grass killer

for the build thread portion of this i just got back with some fuel line and a new filter to get the truck running again. Ill post some pics of that later on once i get out and work on it.

Side note my brother and i Just ordered a new welder. Multi process in the 220v variety. Nothing super heavy duty but more then enough for the two of us. I will post up a review once we get it up and running and lay some welds.

and now what you have been waiting for pics. these are of my newest purchase. I saved up for a truck that i could daily as well as tow with. I found a great 2002 chevy 2500 the other day and fell in love. here it is

the chrome is a bit much but over all i cant complain. Its a 2500 HD with the 6.0. The paint is unique as well. Im not sure if the previous owner did it or if it was a factory thing but its there.

here are my to nice looking vehicles. the green one is my integra GSR. that's fresh out of paint. that's a fun little car to run around in.Ive put a ton of miles on it over the years and it wont die.

its a 14 bolt al right

got some stuff done in the last week. I started by replacing the tail gate spoiler on the HD. I didn't have one when i bought it so i ordered up an OEM right away.

before:

After:

Install wasn't to bad, The crush nuts or riv-nuts or whatever they are were east to install. The old 3m tap was a PITA but a little heat from the hair dryer got it.

As for the K-10 I got it moved to a place that will be easier to work on.

Saturday my brother and I went to the junkyard, and struck out. we found one 3/4 ton Chevy but everything was so rusted. I broke my 1/2" ratcheting breaker bar and decided to call it a day.

The good news is that i did get something done. Im about 50% through my disc swap on the 14 bolt

Should be a roller by Tuesday. I have the breaks and the rotors in the garage. The hubs are stripped, should have the studs pressed in tomarrow afternoon.

ok got the studs pressed through the hubs and rotors and mounted them up to test fit some tires i wanted to run. couple things

one, the rotor will spin 3/4 of a turn and make contact with the caliper bolts. Im going to work with the brackets a little more to see it i can space them up any. Pics are bad but all i have is a cell phone.

Second Like i said before i wanted to try the other tires we have laying around, but alas no go. they are 36x14.5x15, and unfortunately they wont work so im on the hunt for some 36's in the 16 or 16.5 variety.

ohh well as always its a start. sometime next week ill start on the shackle flip and 14bolt install.

Part of my morning routine for the last year or so is checking Craigslist every morning. Looks like i stumbled onto some H1 rims with decent tires that i might be picking up.

Shaved and Mounted just need a spacer

where to start. its been a while, but ive been plugging away at the truck a little at a time.

first off the H1s fell through but i went to pickup the tires i was looking at anyways, while there i was talking and the guy mentioned he had some sitting around. long story short i come home with 5 36x12.5x16.5 swampers and 6 H1s

Now to run there i had to either recenter them or get spacers, well today I ordered some spacers. after combing through some build threads i ordered the same ones that several of our fellow CK5ers have.

next i set out to get the H1s ready, i ordered a bolt and gasket kit from trailworthy fab. They included a few extra studs in the order which was cool, and turned out to be necessary

Thats me on the right and my GFs little brother. Hes interested in vehicles so I have him helping me to get his feet wet.

finally I shaved my 14bolt. I spent about an hour and half with the cut off wheel and then the grinder. I'm fairly certain Ive got about a half a disc's worth of dust in my lungs.

I didnt go crazy I may change that later but for now im happy

hopefully this weekend this bad boy will be getting installed. More pics to follow

let the flippin swap begin

Starting last night i was preparing to install the 14 bolt on the old chevy, and last night ended in alot of cursing, a 315/75/16 tire rolling almost a mile down hill and a bone dry transmission.

first the aftermath of the tires break for freedom.

this is the fence that i had to repair this morning, the wood is shot and the tire rolled right through it.

heres a view from the fence line, the tire rolled down hill and went about 50 ft into the woods not a fun roll this morning.

now once this was done i got the truck running and gave it a gallon of trans fluid i got it in the garage, sometime around 0930 this morning

it took me about 20 minutes to remove the axle

the shackle flip was a little longer taking about 2 hours on one side and 30 min on the other, i used the cut/air chisel method and it worked great.

finally i rolled my 14 bolt under and called it a day. No broken tools, only a few busted knuckles and im back in in time to go out for dinner with the old lady.

its alive...kind of

well the truck is moving again.
in recent weeks ive replaced the brake MC, both front calipers and just about all the brake lines from the firewall back.

heres the swapped axle. for those who havent followed my build thread from the start I grabbed a 14 bolt from a 2000 era gmc van with slide of drums.

I used a brake kit from a seller on pirate4x4 to swap to discs in the rear.

The tires are just some rollers and with a weldlocked rear snow is a lil fun.

next on the list is matching gears for the front end, drive slugs, and the trans rebuild.

weather break update

Over the past few months Ive been balancing my time between a lot of things and sadly the chevy has fallen out of favor. Two weeks ago my good friends mentioned that this semester she had automatic transmission class at our local community college. so out came the trans. This was interesting as we had been piling snow around the truck for months now, I had to tunnel under it to pull the trans.

the trans will get a monster in a box rebuild as well as a new B&M cooler and a temp gauge.

While the trans and transfer case are out i decided to rebuild my shifter for the TC. The truck has an NP203 and the crappy mech failed years ago so i built my own twin stick.

I cut up some of the old assembly and welded in a 5/8th bolt to act as the pivot point.

The all thread is 7/16th and is similar to what was there from the factory.

the levers are 1/4" and will have a 1/4" rod attached to the top once i have everything in the truck and finalized.

I used steel spacers and offset the levers to the tops wouldn't contact each other.

with all of this done I just need a little more work and its play time. I Cant wait to drive it again.

Digging the twin stick.

I've got a 203 in a truck I plan on doing this with. Nice to see some pictures of it on the bench.

honestly I thought id get some flak for bothering to twin stick the 203.

that being said its got a part time kit in it, and I don't want to replace it until I need to. I have a dodge 205 in the shed waiting on what im sure will eventually become a doubler, but i also have several 208s laying around if i wanted to go that route as well.

I just want it finished so I can go play.
