'78 K10 Build

Well I figured out why my gas gauge wasn't working.... Somebody had flipped my tank switch to the passengers side and I never even thought to look because I, myself, have never touched it. :haha::doah:

Probably just bumped it when you put the cb in on accident.

I really like your build too.

HD greasable shackles arrived. Not looking forward to changing out the bushings though.

Heat the old bushings up with one of those propane torches and then use a drill bit to drill some holes all around the sleeve. Once you get the sleeve out, the rest of the bushing *should* be able you be scraped out. Hopefully. It's according to how old they are.

Wait a minute, I thought you had some lift springs on there that aren't that old. If the bushings are poly, theyll come right out with a pair of channel locks.

Yeah they're brand new springs as of a few months ago. I still just plan on it being a PITA.

Nah. They'll slip right out. You'll see. Just grab 'em with your channel locks and twist them back and forth. They'll come right out. Poly bushings that come in lift springs won't seize up like the rubber ones that come from the factory. :D

I can't remember what it is off the top of my head. I just stopped in a truck stop and picked up the cheapest short antenna I could find. It was only like $15.

Did a little wheeling the other day, but didn't get many pictures. I was climbing a big ass ledge and "broke" a u-joint. Not really broke, but the weight of the truck popped a cap off (I made it up though). I then had to pull the DS of and drive home in FWD.

This is not the said ledge by the way. vvvv

Not much of an update and I need to get my ORD front shackles on, but its been so hot out I can't get any motivation. I seriously can't remember the last day it wasnt 90+ degrees outside.

I still love the way that thing looks. How are those tires working?

Martin

At least you have a good ol' NP205 so you can take the rear shaft off without spilling a bunch of transmission fluid everywhere. If I want to take the rear shaft off of my NP208 and still be able to drive it in fwd, I have to improvise a way to keep the fluid from running out the hole where the slip yoke goes. :doah:

Thanks. Kind of about the same opinion as you have on them, they're ok. Compared to Nick and Seth's IROK'S, they suck in my opinion. Compared to A/T's they're great :haha:. Out at the farm ground we we're wheeling at, I had to air down to ~12-13psi to be able to go where they we're going and to keep them from spinning everywhere. Once I did that, it started doing quite a bit better. I want IROK'S though.

That would be a pain in the ass.

It is. One time I didn't feel like taking the shaft all the way off, so I just unbolted it from the axle and used some bailing wire to suspend it from the frame so I could pull the truck out of the swamp and back to the road. The transfer case was locked up that time though. I wouldn't try driving like that, even at trail speeds. The best thing to do if you don't have anything to catch the fluid is to do a quick pull-out with the slip shaft and stick a coke bottle that you've cut the neck off of up there real quick and zip tie it good. That will keep most of the fluid in. It will still squirt out and try to hit you in the face when you first take the shaft out though. So watch out.

Meh, I've driven home with an NP208 with nothing covering the hole after I pulled the rear driveshaft. It won't hurt anything, and even if it does, it's just a 208.

Martin

Yeah I was wondering how much fluid would actually spill out. It seems like it's too high up to lose all your fluid out of that hole.

Like you said, it's just a 208. I have two spare ones sitting around myself.

No updates on the K10 right now, but I bought myself a new toy. :D Lots of fun.

I had to test it out right away

Then I took the goofy stickers off. Looks much more scale and cleaner IMO.

Looks sweet at night

I'll eventually get a Chevy body for it.
