'78 K10 Build

Some steel, a vice, hammer, grinder (with cutoff wheels) and welder you can make most any bracket :D

True, I guess I could ask my friends dad that builds buggys for some assistance.

The 81-87 trucks use brackets to bolt the bumper to the frame in the center. On the 73-80 trucks the bumper bolts straight to the frame horns so you shouldnt need any brackets other than what is already on your truck.

Well I went to do a test fit and there is no way that grille guard will bolt on to my bumper because of the shape of my bumper. The CUCV's grille guards are designed to bolt onto a '81-'87 bumper. So I took the bumper off to see how it would look just bolting it on like that, but then I run into another problem. The L shaped brackets that come off the frame horns don't stick out far enough so that makes the guard want to tilt waaayy back. So im either gonig to have to make some new brackets or say F' it. I still don't know if it would look right though. Has anyone seen one of these on this front end?

I dont know your fab skills or what kind of tools you have access to (looks like quite a few) but here's an idea. Cut the portion of the grille guard that bolts to the bumper off. Then build a bracket that fits your bumper and weld the grille guard to it. Seems pretty simple to do in my head but its been a long time since Ive looked closely at all the parts you're dealing with so it could be a lot worse then what Im thinking.

However, I do not like the way it looks with no bumper. I would find a way to make it work with your bumper or not at all.

Do the newer truck bumpers and brackets fit the 73-80s?

Brackets wont fit the frame for sure.

I tried a newer bumper when I swapped the older front clip on my 85 and it rubbed the fenders. It may be possible to trim the inside of the bumper where it wraps around and make it fit.

Dont know how well the 81-87 bumper would fit on the 73-80 frame brackets but I know that the older bumper will fit perfect on the newer frame/brackets.

Throw one in the back next time you come to Lincoln and i'll buy one from ya.

Ordered a new battery tray from GM and a support from eBay today since the factory one rusted out the other day.

The battery tray rusted out in one day huh?:eek1: j/k, I know what you mean.:D

I was gonna say that if you're in lincoln you can have one of mine. But then I noticed it was Lincoln Nebraska. I live in Lincoln Arkansas

Lol. Ok, the battery is now resting on my fender well and radiator support.

Me and my buddy tried out hands at some custom body work last night. :haha: Pics to come.

Now before you say anything, I know this is not the right way to do this and it's not pretty, but with how crappy this box is and the supplies we had, it'll do. :D

Here's how the night started.

After work im going to paint the undercoating white which should hide some of the dents and stuff. It's not pretty, but im not really worried about that since it's going to be seeing trails, rocks, mud, and such. It looks/ and will look a lot better than a giant dent for now.

I'll try to post pics of the white paint later.

I wasn't hacking your work...just that I milk cows for a living and I thought of them when I saw the black and white.

I am trying to make my box sides straight right now after welding panels in to fix the rust... it's not easy!!
