'78 K10 Build

Decided to take the rear bumper off and get rid of the POS hitch that was welded to the frame. Also cut the tail pipes off so now I have dumps. Tail pipes didn't bother me, but they would've had to be taken off when I do the shackle flip anyways. I think it sounds pretty cool and looks better like this now though. :D

I want to build/ or have a buddy's Dad build some kind of bumper with a hitch eventually.

haha yeah, pretty much. I want something that somewhat protects the rear box area as well.

Well, it looks better than it did.

It looks like your rear cab mounts are shot. The body lines don't match up. You have a nice truck though. I had an 86 K10 that looked exactly like yours.....with a sloped hood of course.

Yeah I noticed that lol, but thanks. I finally just sold my dirtbike so now im going to start ordering parts for this beast. Starting with body mounts and a lift kit. Then pick up some 3/4 tons here soon as well.

Edit: Body mounts ordered.

Found these 16.5's on Craigslist yesterday and picked 'em up for $75. Center caps are in great shape.

That is going to look great. You need to get those 3/4 ton axles under there. I just sold one of my sets......

I know, im just waiting for Baker to figure out what he's doing because I want the 4.56's. If you lived a little closer I'd probably just come and get them.

Im getting ready to order a lift from Roughcountry because I have a friend that will get me 30% off. I'd like your opinion and I have a few questions.

http://www.roughcountry.com/chevy_4wd_77-87_4.html

Here is what im thinking. I get the 4" lift kit and add the steering stabilizer and extended brake lines. Since the lift will be going on 3/4 ton axles, do I need to select the 3/4 ton option below?

I won't be using the blocks on the rear obviously cause im going to buy a shackle flip.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

My opinion is to save up and buy a better, softer, more flexible system... I get more flex out of my 1 ton frame then I do with my 6" all spring suspension lift! With that said, it works fine for mud and clearing larger tires.

I plan on eventually swapping out for a package like what's pieced together on ORD.

You know, you're right, I should just spend a few more bucks and do it right the first time.:waytogo: I want this thing to flex so I probably should go with the TC EZ-ride springs at the very least.

I've been pricing stuff out this morning and it seem the best way to do it is to just go through ORD for everything, so that's most likely what i'll be doing now.

For example: TC lift from Summit is 459.95 + shipping. I don't need the blocks and it doesn't come with the drop arm or shocks. ORD has the springs and everything I need and I can just piece it together. By time I get everything I need, I think ORD would be the cheaper route anyways.

Don't go Rough Country... Like was said above, save up a little more and get a better lift. I went the Rough Country route, and I regret it.

Honestly of you want the best suspension you can get you need to save up for a set of alcan springs for the front a get a set of the 88-91 suburban rear 56" stock springs. That in theory after you get a good se of shock, which make the suspension, like bilstien 5100 or 7100 or I'm thinking a set or Rancho rsx9000xl's for my truck if you go Rancho for shocks get the in cab controller so you can stiffen them for the streets and soften them for the trails.

Went to the local swap meet and got a new GM bowtie for the grille and a Scottsdale 10 fender emblem. Still need one for the drivers side though.

That would be ideal, but I don't think I can spend that kind of cash on this thing right now. I've heard good things about ORD so im going to order some stuff from them tomorrow. Thanks for the info though.:waytogo:

Update: Ordered some parts.

Off-Road Design:

:woot:

I have 4.56 3/4 ton axles lined up, just waiting for them to get pulled from a '79 K15. Might be buying some 37" hummer take off's from him as well. Then I just need to order some brake lines and I think that's it? What do I have to do about the driveshafts?

You'll need a Precision #447 conversion u-joint for the back axle. The driveshafts should be fine, but you won't know for sure until you have it lifted.
