'78 K10 Build

Yea I'm thinking I'm gonna cut up a junkyard hitch and weld wings on it to bolt inside the frame like this one. easy peasy.

The only problem with that is how the hitch hangs down below the frame and then the receiver is below that.

That's why I want one like the one pictured. I've seen guys get hung up on those kind of receiver hitches several times.

I finally replaced my tcase/trans bushings and I can't believe the difference in how much more solid it feels when driving now. The old ones were completely blown out and there was only 1 side bolted to the cross member. I tested it out in 4wd and the front driveshaft doesn't bang on the cross member anymore, so that is really nice.

Old blown out oily bushings

Just a nut hair of room between the shaft and cross member

I think they over-stayed their welcome

I could've told this story without pics but oh well.

That's exactly what I need to do. Where did you get them? What brand?

What's this I've heard about it not being a good idea to use poly transmission mounts with rubber engine mounts and vice versa? Seems like I've read on this forum that if you mix the two, something will break. Don't know if that's true or not. Are you running poly engine mounts as well?

Or those rubber mounts and I just don't know what a new rubber mount looks like because the only ones I've ever seen were old and crusty?

I got them from Offroad Design cause they were the cheapest I found and could get them here the fastest. They look identical to the Energy Suspenson ones so i'd guess that's what they are.

They are poly mounts and i've never heard anything about that. So if someone who reads this knows more than we do, chime in.

Im really glad I replaced them though. Night and day difference.

I run poly tcase mounts and rubber engine mounts and never been a problem. Honestly my engine mounts the big bolts don't even go through the sleeve, just slide in a gap between the rubber and the shell. Frame was bent and they wouldn't fit. Ran it like that for years and never had a problem except some vibration in the steering wheel. And I'm currently fixing that as we speak, as getting it stuck and yanking on it with a trackhoe bent the frame in the opposing direction, allowing new motor.mounts to finally fit.

Yeah I'm kinda thinking that someone somewhere may have had a motor mount break on them and thought that maybe it was because they had poly transmission mounts and then someone else heard about it and told somebody and then they echoed what they'd heard and then before you knew it, everyone was accepting it as the gospel truth even though they had no personal experience and were just going by what they had heard somewhere. That's why I kinda hesitated to mention it at all.

Kinda like earlier this year when I posted that I was thinking about replacing my broken TH700R4 with a TH400. People came out of the woodwork saying that it was a bad idea and that I would get way worse mileage and my engine wouldn't be able to power it and all this other junk that they had heard other people claim. It turned out to be the best upgrade I've ever made. I'm glad I didn't listen to any of the naysayers.

Well I do know your not supposed to run solid mounts like aluminum and then rubber mounts too. And the 700 vs 400 is a never ending thing. The 400 you will loose hp, loose mpgs, it just depends on what your willing to trade for brute strength. If more people would beef up a 700 it would gain a bigger following. It's not a bad tranny, just needs a lil help. I'm tempted to pull my beefed up 400 and swap a 700 back in, 60mph and the 454 is howling, plus a lil better crawl ratio would help since I don't want a doubler. Just depends on what your looking for, stick vs auto is same thing, I hate sticks personally, and use them to hold down dumpsters every time I get one.

Chris I told you that was why your drive shaft was rubbing.

Nothing new here, just a little pic whoring from yesterday.

Once I parked it on this ledge, I let my buddy take the wheel for a bit.

He thought he was going to roll it here

He took the easy way out

The good side

Before I had a locker in the rear and a carb that worked good, these two spots of this big ledge were impossible. Now, i'll let the very short videos do the talking...

My buddy still driving here.

The ledge might not look that big, but it is.
