Yeah, that lowest bulge on the bottom. Still doesn't make sense. Why not run coolant through the back ports?
Not sure, but if it worked on thousands upon thousands of pickups, I think it will work fine for you.

They did the same thing on 4.3 V6 TBI engines as well. I just did heads on one a few weeks ago.

You have a point.
I believe 78's had a blue block from factory however I think orange looks better.
No Chevrolet engine should ever be ANY color other than orange.

77 small blocks were blue, 78 the big blocks went blue, and then like 82/83 they went black. Orange is the only real option when repainting though. Its 'merican.

I like black. As soon as you hit the dirt, you cant even tell its dirty. Orange motors look nice until you go wheeling

I think some of the Camaros, El Caminos and Chevelles may have come with orange blocks but I don't know if any of the trucks ever did.
EVERYTHING came with an orange engine till the late 70's. Than they came with god awful blue Ford looking engines for a couple years, till they all went black when they became "corporate" engines.

Psssshhh, don't paint the motor. It's a waste of time on a motor. After one time wheeling you are gonna look at it and get pissed that you spent so much time painting something that looks like shiz again. The only stuff worth painting is stuff that can rust. I've never heard of too many people having problems with their block rusting (unless it's been sitting for multiple years in a field). Just throw that motor in. My $0.02
The engine is the only part worth painting!!!

I personally disagree. The guy who built my motor that's in my k5 right now painted it (orange), which was only a couple years ago and since then there hasn't been that many miles on it. And it looks like crap now and you can barely tell it looks orange. Just seems like a lot of work for a wheeling rig. Now a chevelle/camaro....that make sense, but not a 78 k10
Have you seen how clean he keeps EVERY vehicle he owns? It will look good for years to come.
