'78 K20 - RootBreaker from 1990 - nov 2025 8.1L not runnin

Well the swamped in mud continues.. had to replace both calipers as they were old.. clogged with mud. But drove it and locked rotor heated up... well i think it warped a rotor. Hat to google like crazy as i have dualmatic hubs. Never tookem apart. Supposed to thunderstorm so dont know when i eill get it apart. Mine are a bit different. No dual row screws so will see what gives...20171105_162201.jpg 5339770908_be1708bf2f_b.jpg 5339158527_b7d8b821f4_b.jpg

Ok i just wrnt outside... took cap off.. snapring missing off axel so someone has been in here. Its cruddy so im gonna do both sides now. I think i know what you mean now... internal so has the big outter metal ring that has to come out...

Internal vs external refers to the mounting style of the locking hub. Your hubs (internal) are retained by a large snap ring in a groove on the inside of the bearing hub snout. External design hubs use 3/8" bolts thru a flange around the perimeter. The only reason I brought this up is because your diagrams are for the external design so they will not completely match what you have.

so its cruddy in there... I'm going to clean it out.. and repack. how much grease do you put in there? and just plain bearing grease?
also only cuz I haven't done one...

after I get that outer ring out and pull inners out.. I'm guessing the double nut and lock ring is in there? what size?
ive got the one for a D44 and 14bff... that is it... I'm guessing the D60 has a different one or does the 14b one work?

The D60 set is it own size, and is a separate tool from the 14b

When you say repack, you're talking about the bearings, correct? I only ask because most of this has been about the locking hubs, they do NOT get grease. You can clean them good and maybe a coating of light oil but no grease, grease is too thick and can prevent the hub parts from moving correctly.
