78 K5 Build. It's the little things..

Not 100% sure but don't think your suppose to mix poly mounts with rubber. Might want to swap engine mounts out.

Wives tale.

I've had poly mounts on engine and on trans and rubber engine mounts and any combination of the above.

The motor mounts look perfect and until I change engines they'll do.

So ran into an issue, periodically it would not want to shift automatically, pulled the governor out and it would stick, so I put it in the sovent machine overnight, blew it out and reinstalled it. no change.

Fast forward two weeks, ive called around nobody has one laying around, never thought id see the day when a part for the most common GM trans ever made is hard to find.. So I finally break down and buy an AC Delco model, NOS online, it takes a couple days and it arrives on friday, put it in and vroom shifts perfect, nice and firm with the kit, loving it. Its still somewhat scary to drive with the steering box and brakes but one system at a time. Gave her the first oilc change and holy crap that black ugly sludge rolling out of that pan made me nervous, sure ran a ton better too.

Very cool. Dad had several "round eye" trucks, it's good to see them saved. I don't know why the round eye trucks seem so much older when there's only 8 years difference between your truck and mine. IMO of course...

i prefer round eye or 89-91 front ends. so no matter what it would have had one of those two style front ends. My last truck was a immaculate 91 Scottsdale that i should have kept. This one is a beater but cost a 1/4 of what the 91 cost lol

Check for cracks around the box mounting one the frame. The rag joint also can cause slop at the input to the box as well as the sliding connection at the top of the steering shaft.

It's the 38 year old box, there's some minor cracks but nothing the Brace kit won't fix.

I'm looking for a good used one but those apparently don't exist so now I have to buy rebuilt

So thought I'd add some stuff. Wife has had pneumonia 3 times since last update so truck funds are very low. Blasted and painted the air cleaner. Did a oil change and full tune up. Then I tackled some of the shitty Previous Idiot wiring. The KC lights were hard wired into the factory headlight harness with..wirenuts..

After ripping out a ton of bs, luckily he just used clamp splices so no serious damage done, I now have working lights all around. The aux lights are on a separate harness tied in Properly.

Finally got back on the door panels. I put a head unit in so I could have some tunes to compete with the shitty exhaust. Been driving it a bit and evaluating.

Had to take off two layers of enamel paint. White would have been pretty cool with the rest of the interior black. I'm going to go with the chocolate brown on the door panels and dash. Long term plans are green exterior paint so.. man this was a pain in the ass.
