78 K5 Build. It's the little things..

So the old interstate that came with the truck gave up the ghost. Pulled it out and Battery tray was held together with rat shit and hopes and dreams. Propped up with a 2x4.

Got the bracket and what was left out and looked it over and decided to redo it.

I don't like a lot of brand names visible. I assume you have a set of valvecovers you're looking to get rid of? I appreciate it but I'm looking for some tall steel ones.

That's why I love squarebody guys, always willing to help or donate parts☺

Yesterday I replaced the chewed up negative cable, installed a battery cut-off switch and two cable ends, installed the new battery tray and grabbed up a aluminum strap for the fender side. Fits good works like a charm.

Oddly enough it seems to run better, smoother idle etc I guess maybe new battery etc has something to do with that. Weird.

Couple new updates, been moving and really busy at work but next week, new exhaust is going on, Hedman headers, black widow mufflers and custom 2.5 all the way out with tailpipes. Time to get rid of the shitty 2" tubes and shitty welded on blown out glass packs. More to come on that.

Did a full brake job all the way around new fluid in the diffs, some new locking hubs, found out the gov bomb in the 12 bolt is ticking. Anyone got a cheaper alternative to a full locker? I'm not really interested in an axle swap.

Love the progress - any more updates?

fyi - you mentioned bad wiring on gauges... how is the rest of the wiring? like the fuse block? mine was shot and I installed an EZ-Wiring 21 kit and WOW love it... albeit stupid me went with the black kit which was a bad idea as schematics say light green to here and dark green to there... ummm no all mine are black with wording written every 12" (temp sensor, oil sender, etc) UGHHHH

but my headlights are brighter, etc and its a stock GM fuseblock that clicked into my stock fuse brick!!!!

Good to know.

The fuse block and pass through looks bad, ive got some more messing with to do but i just moved so its going to be a bit before i can mess with it. I haven't decided on what to do about the gauges, ive got the factory pigtail cleaned up and all the BS deleted from the whole truck. Im still chasing some stuff down, I have an intermittent issue with he pass side brake light/blinker etc. Im leaning towards just putting the factory stuff back in, I love the thought of intellitronix or the dakota stuff but i dont think i can justify it.

Exhaust is done though and it sounds awesome. However, I think i may have a bad distributor. so theres another 150.00.

i cant figure out how to save the video of the exhaust and upload it.

so you replaced the entire wiring? how did it work with the turn signal switch and such in the column?

Easy as shit... im out but do an advance search.. me as thread start and ez-wiring

DUDE. i think thats going to be a winter project then. is the underhood harness block included?

lol.... no...
the fuse block is included and I re-used my old under hood and other half that clicks into this fuse block piece.....

you can either cut your wires and leave room to solder and shrink tube or buy the connectors and put them on (which is what I did)...

Can you buy the under the hood side as well. (Lighting harness)

Edit: I see you can get headlights. But not taillights?

dunno bet you could... I actually cleaned up my tail light section wiring and my headlight wiring as they were in good shape. My rewire was mainly cuz the wires under the fuse section were cracked, shorting and some held on by strands... thus in cab was all new wiring...

i dont like still having glass fuzes, id like to upgrade to a blade fuze setup. The pass through to the engine compartment is cracked and I think some of my issues have to do with that as well. Im planning on a standalone EFI and a Vintage Air setup down the road.

so all I can say is if you have never gone here you need too and you will fall in love. can be tough to find what you need but it has everything..
www.waytekwire.com

I bought a 100'box of wire loom for $17 !!!!
Loom T adapters, mounting clips, wire breakout adapters

I then also bought the male/female ends for the wires to go into my old fusebox - not sure if the old glass style has the same back as my fuse block is 2 pieces.
bought the crip tool

bought a ton of contura connectors, wire connectors and swiches/rockers

I guess this is a good time to close out this saga.

I got my 75 Full top and a guy found me online and wanted to trade for a C10. I made the trip down to Texas with this big bitch on a trailer and trailered it back.

Word of wisdom, don’t take a borrowed trailer with “good tires” for an out of state trip in a Sunday in the Bible Belt. Just don’t.

Nice little truck with a newer DJM 3/4 kit and Billet Specialties wheels.

Haven’t done much besides add a pretty decent stereo, a better seat, LED headlights and some minor maintenance stuff but a couple months I went off the deep end and bought a low mile 454.

And down the rabbit hole we go.
