79' GMC C15 - Spruce Caboose

79 GMC 1500
I ordered all my parts for a 79 1/2 ton 2wd there are several brake options for shoe size just make sure all the parts match for what drum size you are using.

I went with the biggest factory brakes that they had for it I think the shoes are like 1/4 wider then what it had when I got it.

I think I had a '77 Chevy 4x4 1/2 ton that had a 12 volt out back.

Gangrene was a 79 it had a 12 in it.
Ratbag when it was C10 Had a12 in it. It’s 77
My old 78 short box 4x4 was 12.

Actually anything I have had that was 1980 or older had a 12 bolt in it. After 80 seems to be a toss up Between 10 and 12 Untill 82 then they should all be 10 bolt.

I still have the axles out of Gangrenes rear end, think I tossed the drums. But i’m sure the drums interchange depending on the width of the brake shoes.

Maybe because my truck is a base model it has a ten over a 12? Along with you two, my buddies who have 79s and older all have 12 bolts also. Just the chit end of the stick I guess, 2.56s and a ten haha.

I'm hoping the pad width is the same also, so the drums will work. They seem to be quite similar to a ten bolt so fingers crossed. I don't wanna know what it'd cost to have two axle shafts shipped , even from AB haha.

I'd see what the whole order looks like coming from Rock Auto...I don't find their shipping to be too bad at all especially if it all ships from one place. If not, you seem to have some luck at Lordco, they might be not bad.

168 dollars for shipping from rock auto. A total of 433 bucks, definitely going to shop around a bit and see if i can beat it.

by removing the drums shipping goes down to 20.43 cents..

i picked up my other beside panel and the roll pan i got from the guy who bought my k5. The roll pan obviously didnt fit, It needed some of the tail pan cut out for the license plate surround to fit nice. It also didnt fit side to side either. Other then that it seems well made and from an online search its a very common problem. Id much rather cut to make it fit than it be too small.

I made a template of the curvature of the inside of the license plate and then cut the tailpan to match. I also cleaned up the corners of the tailpan while i had the tailgate brackets out , it will all get cleaned better when the box comes off but while im here i might as well.. The roll pan needed to be shaved on the right side, i just used a 2 inch rolok style flap disk and straightened it up as the outside bend's radius was a bit large. With some hammering, and shaving it slide right in after about 10 times on and off.

After letting it all dry overnight i fit it for the last time, installed the roll pan and gate. The roll pan will get welded on but for now im going to leave it bolted on because i want to be able to remove it when i go to pull the bed off, clean it all up this winter, and i also might pick up another long box if i find one in better shape and id rather have a nice edge to weld when the time comes. I did put a tack at each end where the bottom of the bedside and roll pan meet. Itll be nice to not have my license plate taped to my rear window obstructing my shoulder check, and also attracting the fact im driving around without a bumper.

The tailgate bracket on the pass side needs to go in a little bit to flush up the gate and bedside , but for now i can live with it, since its all coming apart again this winter.

Backyard find of the day. Was quoted 900 bucks to re foam, and cover my bench seat. This is a good unicorn to find for a very good price. Assuming it's been re covered since 79. A buddy of mine owns a mobile detailing company so he's gonna come give it a serious go and get these stains out.

The faux leather cleaned up good, hopefully the deep clean gets the stains out, and until then I have a comfy new shop seat.

Love stains brings a whole new perspective to them......

I like the pattern in the old seat.

Haha I showed my buddy the seat and his first reaction was.. I've made stains like that before and laughs. Now the seats ruined mentally but oh well haha.

I absolutely love the green -tweed-sequence-whatever it is it's before my time hahaha- Original seat. I just wish I could afford someone to redo it. I'll be keeping it as a shop seat, so maybe one day down the road it'll get re done. If it was me I'd do most of the cab in black and green, so the overwhelming abundance of green didn't burn your eyes,a the seat could be the focal point of it all.

My buddy who owns the detailing company is going through a tough time so I figured if I got it mounted on the truck I could take it to one of those scrubby machines n maybe it'll get some of it out. Throw some pre treatment on it prior or something.:dunno:

Definitely an apprentice in love stain removing

That's what I was thinking. Now you can't even just throw a seat cover over it and forget about it. :rotfl:

Managed to keep stockpiling some pieces for the winter throw down on the c10. Found some NOS gm door skins. Buddy had them sitting around for around 15 years n never did anything with em.

He also has a rebuilt th350 and np203 laying around. Now I just gotta find a k5-20 with a blown trans for cheap..

I wasn't planning on swapping my doors as I think they could be salvaged buuut when things fall in your lap ... Pretty cool to see old NOS stuff.

These are complete shells not skins.
Even better.
Changing skins on a door is the last thing I want to do, big pain in the ass
