Tinkered some today, got new ps pump belt on, new ground cable on, and got the rack off. I also tested the temp gauge and it worked, so I got a new temp sensor on to now see If the thermostat is closing properly, as the heat sucks in the cab. Also cleaned enough to get the suffix code, 350 , 175 hp. When I looked up the suffix codes some motors had differences in hp of 15 or such but same ci.. what would cause such factory differences?

Found some rust free and nearly not bent, front fenders for a wicked deal today, so I drove up island to get em. Also rekindling my love for AM radio, and coffee juggling due to the lack of cup holders. Worth every bit of news talk radio though. Plan is to spray these the same color as the truck is now, as I intend to keep it this color throughout the build.

Also a buddy of mine has some drop spindles I may acquire as things hopefully don't snowball..

ahh true, didnt think of that!

Yea it snowed the typical one time a year that it does, and everyone lost their mind as per usual. Still some snow up island near nanaimo where i hunted down the fenders.

haha it does! The other day i had a roll of gorilla tape on the floor, and it worked out good until i forgot it was there n kicked over my coffee, its definitely going to be my template for when i make a console.
 
Welcome back! Your Blazer build was one of the first builds I read front to back and had a hand in my getting hooked on this forum, glad to see your saving another square! My first ever vehicle was a 1982 2wd SCLB GMC, you are definitely right that a SCLB is more versatile than a Blazer, but you need both for different situations! :whistle:

Feels great to be back, and I'm glad the blazer thread helped ya get hooked, as It's the best drug to be addicted to! I totally get that both do make a wicked team but the blazer is for sale, and a few guys have come to look at it , so I don't think it'll be too long before someone buys it. Sadly it's just too far gone for the space I have right now, and I just want someone else to love and finish her. I don't even have a driveway and have 3 projects on the go of my own, and I also have a camper van I'm building with my ol lady. Between us we have 5 vehicles so before it gets out of hand any further ones gotta go.

My plans for the sclb are pretty simple. Fix the rust, keep it the same color, lowered a couple inches, and eventually an 6L swap. I'm sure once all that's done I'll blow the ten bolt up and need to find a 14 bolt of some sort and so forth into the rabbit hole ..... but for now I'm going to stick to some advice a best friend and squarebody co pilot told me. K.I.S.S ( keep it simple stupid!)

The stock motor seems to have lots of life left at 185k km so for now it's just fix it up n daily it
 
I've noticed at idle the oil pressure gauge is quite jittery. It doesn't drop down to anything alarming , jitters around 30 psi. Is there a way to check the gauge or sender for resistance or voltage fluctuations, or is there other issues that could be causing such sudden fluctuations in oil pressure. I'm assuming everything is stock so maybe il start with a new sender, but I'd love to test this one before throwing money at new parts. I've also learned over the years Chevy gauges aren't the most accurate things in the world so maybe it's just that..

I haven't noticed it jump while driving down the highway or anything with throttle applied. It does have a bit of a lump here and there at idle but runs perfectly normal otherwise. Maybe it's that lump at idle causing it, so I'll try to tackle that issue and see if it fixes it.
 
My 79 does this. Has for awhile now.

Tried 3 different senders, 2 new, 1 used, all the same. Engine has oil, doesn't knock, good enough for me.

Yea i potentially figured as much. I tend to get carried away with small things and then my mind runs away with them haha.. fml
 
Im going to have to wait til summer time to do any actual rust repair. The cab corners on the outside need new sheet metal and theres a spot on the floor that does as well. But until then i want to buff off alot of the surface rust so it doest get another 3-4 months of wetness added to them since the metal is still solid enough to save. I have been searching paint codes online but cant find the typical GM code sticker anywhere... glove box doesnt have one ( although it does have the orignal owners manual in it - score! ) and im wondering if anyone can narrow it down for me. I want to get a couple spray cans made just to protect the spots until i can actually spray it with a gun sometime this summer. Im assuming that the proper color for this truck would be the bright metallic green but since i havent seen many green gm trucks i was hoping someone could help before i go and order cans that may not be right .

yea thats definitely not the worst of it. The rear quarters are pretty toasted on the bottom ends of each side, going to try and find a long box locally thats not nearly as bad, and if i cant, ill weld in some patches from lmc at the bottoms. The cab corners need some work too, but luckily the rockers are still very solid. The floors in this thing are in really good shape besides that one spot. Im glad none of my rust repair is going to be around body mounts, and inside cab corners, just exterior body pannels patches. I have some space at work i can use over the weekends, as long as its gone by monday morning, so ill just have to save up for a MIG machine before i get to it.. unless work buys one first ( but thats another battle haha )
 
I did also manage to clean out the rest of the cab. I opted out of looking under the bench last time.. :weld::sick:

Can’t remember if I saved the glove box door off gangrene or if it still had the sticker in it? I’ll look tomorrow in my shed. Sure looks to be the same colour. Hopefully I can find the paint code for you.

Nasty treats under the seat! I have found some cool things under them before... but mostly just nasty treats! :haha:
