'79 K10 Step Side Rusty Rex

79K10 Stepside
Engine is in and runs. Seems good. I had to comb over and double check my ebay engine harness.

And I had to use ICT billet crankshaft and knock sensors harness extensions. I used a 20$ ebay extension and it was garbage.

If the ebay engine harness gives me trouble I'll replace with ICT supplier, or BP automotive version.

When I say "comb" over the Ebay harness. I mean I pulled it back out and ohm pinned ALL the wires, and spruced up the whole thing.

Removed wires I don't use etc. Mine was pinned correctly I will say that. But it shows it's 99$ price tag. Time will tell. Maybe it's great!

Not worth the savings! Just buy the 550$+ USA made harnesses!

I spent 4-5hrs double checking it....

I placed an order with PRP seats on Tuesday this week. A set of daily driver series buckets and 4.3 harnesses. Also one of their steering wheels.

Went pretty conservative on the seat colors dark black camo center and black all around, and got the optional heaters and used Cordura for my whole seat face. Went a little colorful with the harness and wheel though.

Added a winch to my car hauler as well. Removable M8000 in warns carrier. Battery in the toolbox of trailer.

Pics so its not a boring post...

I have a feeling my next want, will be an ORD magnum box. It may be a year or two out. But the 6.0L is so smooth that even more gearing will make this truck crawl even better. Or snow wheel better with the different low combos. The power down low is way better with this engine.

I Feel my highway RPM is OK at 65 MPH I'm at 3000. I don't road trip this truck. But going 65 miles at 65mph isn't bad in the truck, an hour or so drive. The truck requires pretty much no throttle to maintain that RPM. I feel like my truck wouldn't really benefit from a 5 speed OD transmission too much. Or an automatic I guess. But the reason I bought this truck was cause it was a 4 speed.

It's just under 4 grand to make that mod, with driveshafts being changed in length. And that's to the SM465. Any NV4500 I've seen that would fit my truck is more than I want to pay. My truck isn't a true trailer queen, but if I'm going over 100 miles away to wheel it rides on the trailer. And I ride in my Civilized tow rig.

I've seen a few members here with the magnum and sm465 here. If anybody else has this setup let me know what you think of it?

It would make it easier for me to let go of my wrangler if I ever needed to, if my stepside was a more serious crawling rig.

A picture of the truck just sitting outside of work. Just so it's got pictures and colors for all our CK5'ers

For those who haven't read the whole thread, truck gearing specs are 5.13's, 40" radials, NP205/SM465, 6.0L L76.

My NV4500 swap was basically a bolt in affair using the AA bell housing. Keep your eye out for a decent deal on one. I think it was definitely worth the trouble.

Appreciate the replies. I do think if I'm patient I'd like to find an nv4500 as well.

Or just modify the sm465, which will require complete tear down and mainshaft exchange for me.

Of course any salvage yard nv4500 will need to be rebuilt as well. Or at least inspected close AF.

New transmission and transfer case shift knobs. I have a box of these collecting at this point. The skull wont be taking a bite out of the seat after the old PRP's make their way in. I did order a skull that will fit the transmission, but that may have to wait till closer to Halloween.

Someday, ill have that 4th lever......

The pattern is Serape, Mexican blanket pattern. PRP says they sold the shit out of it. it's just a limited run. And harnesses and steering wheels are easily changed. I stayed conservative on the seats. Which do have the heated seat option. :D

Modern cameras make the belts look crazy vibrant compared to real life. They are a shade easier on the eye in person or with all filters off.

Just the rainbow colours Bud light and all the BS. Don’t get me wrong I could care less about all that.

I think the harness looks cool, kind of an old school hippie vibe.
I'm surprised you northerners even know about all that.
With your Molson and Labatt blue and all.
