'79 K20 Minor Mods. 203 is out.

I don't know for sure if my tach works, I'll have to hook it up to an engine quick and check.

I put a fuse inline with the marker lights in case that wire were to ever short again, it would take the fuse instead of my headlight switch. So with power to my lights and my new speedo in my old cluster I hit the key and went for a ride.

Only the 2 outside markers lights lit up. My speedo is off between 5 and 10mph and the needle bounces. My dash pad is still in the bed of the truck.
It's better than it was I guess.

Let me know. Even if it doesn't I'd be interested in it for the guts. It should be plug and play, right?

Does yours work? I would possibly trade straight across for a non molested cluster.

Nice rig, I like your detailed thread. Any pics of wheeling?

Someday I will get a factory tach haha

Everything in the 79 cluster works since I swapped in the new speedo. One of the bulbs in the back has trouble staying put though and one of the mounting holes on the front is slightly hogged out. I put a tiny washer on the screw to keep it in place.

Thanks. No pics of wheeling aside from the one on the first page in the snow. If you can call 4 inches of snow in a cow pasture wheeling. That's probably boring to you guys who rock crawl or drive your rigs more than 10 miles from home.

I've not done much with it because at first it seemed like EVERY time I took it out something else would break. And I mean every single trip. First it was a brake line and I fixed that. Then another brake line. Then a fuel line. Then the tank. You get the idea. I'm sort of gun shy about going somewhere far away.

Haha yeah I know the feeling. Just gotta drive it and figure out the little things. Ive taken my old pos on wheeling trips 2 hours away going 65mph there and back and it loves it! I was always afraid to take it anywhere out of town or even the highway when I got it but they really aren't that bad.

Any wheeling pics are good enough for us to look at.

Nothing new today. Went back to the yard where I got the tach cluster and pulled the rest of the tach harness from the truck. Also got some pocket screws. Gonna hook it up and see if it works if the rain lets up.

Hooked up the tach. it works. Picture of the truck it came from. Not sure if it's a 76 or 77. Notice the blue denali on the left hand side with a nice juicy 5.3. Too bad it has sat uncovered for the better part of 6 weeks, it's probably full of water by now.

Worked late, got home after dark. Put the new vacuum advance on and capped of the vac line to the smog pump. Definite change in idle now that I've done away with 2 vac leaks. I'll play with the idle mixture and timing this weekend.

Worked yesterday, got an invite to go wheeling at about 2 pm so I cut out early. Started to reassemble the truck then got the call that I was going to a jeep only event, so the truck stayed parked. That turned out to be a good thing as those trails we so small I would have gotten real good at making 3 point turns.

We wheeled my buddies 79 cj something. He had the only older jeep there. Got hung up a couple of times mainly due to being narrow and only having 2" of lift. I did learn that wheeling is more about technique than just equipment. It was a good time.

First pic is the 79, second is what is/was a samurai. It has locked chevy axles, a 4.3, some kind of doubler and lots of jeep parts. Fourth pic is a blurry shot of another buddies 66 chevelle with a 396. It's loud. He is going to come over sometime today and we are doing the headlight relay mod to his 84 cc.

Also I almost got the top back on my 465. Gonna try again today once I can see straight.

It's nice to see a K20 being built instead of parted out for the axles

Did you figure anything out on the tach cluster? It is really simple to make the mechanical oil gauge work. You just might have to repin your harness.

Martin

I did not. I thought you said something about having one you might let go.

I would possibly trade straight across, but I would still want to have a complete cluster.
