'79 K20 Minor Mods. 203 is out.

Just read through 20 pages of search results. Gonna go set the toe in and then maybe fiddle with the adjustment on the steering box. Sounds like it might be a touch too tight.

My truck wanders all over the place too...but I know my toe settings are out to lunch. To lazy to set it right, I barley drive it any way and never on the road.

But after reading the whole thread just now I`m going to the shop to weld my shifter up! :D

Nice truck you got! Mine is a lot like it! :thumb:

Thanks. I welded the shifter before I ever drove the truck, so I can't comment on how much of a difference it makes in shift quality.

The front was toed out about 5/8". Set it to about 1/8" inward and it does drive better. The steering still has a very light feel to it, almost like the wheel isn't connected to anything. Not sure if this is good or bad yet.

Welded my spare shifter, Its better but not a ton...the one I had in there was pretty good though.

The steering is usually light on these trucks, They don't have much feel like the newer ones do. If that make any sense.

Yea, but it is noticeably lighter than it was before I changed a whole bunch of parts.
Gonna drive it to work in the morning and see how it does.

Well if I crash and die on the way to work tomorrow you and Marty can split my things.

Also thinking of selling the 6.0 I have stashed. Guy I know wants to put it in his 51 chevrolet. I've sat on it for about a year now.

:haha:You should be fine!

Glad the 1/8" toe-in helped. I keep mine at dead even toe, but I've heard both methods suggested.

As far as the light steering, you may want to look into putting some 5 degree shims under the front springs if that's possible. Not having the proper castor can make it feel like you're driving a boat down the road.

hey mark,i just read 20 pages about a truck i know well i cant wait to start on mine!

btw, is that me or you in the pic dropping the th400?

Had some trouble with an increasingly high idle. Found the top carb bolts loose as well as the mounting bolts. Snugged them back down. Runs better now.

Now that the truck is fixed enough, you should put a motor in that vette.

Funny you should say that, I was just on Craigslist looking for 4 speeds, I think I'm going to try to buy that motor from Bob that has been sitting on my stand for 2 years, truck first though!
