79 K30 crew cab

Modern-ish drivetrain and creature comforts
I’m putting a L29 (carbed) in a 86 C10.

Stock heads with company cams springs and the adjustable valvtrain kit, Harland sharp roller rockers and all the trimmings.

I sprung for a Custom grind Straub cam, pushrods etc. engine only has about 20k on a really high quality stock rebuild.

So are you going to keep the EFi? I’m trying to work out a budget friendly fuel system.

Yes , staying EFI . I will be switching to the 0411 ECM and going to coil on plug ignition and switching to the 8.1 Mercruiser magnum HO cam.

Base tune will be for a 8.1 Gm Van with a 4L80e and tuned with EFI live to get it right.

I still have some details to work out , but I have swapped a L31 Vortec over to the 0411 PCM so it’s not entirely new territory.

ah o.k. ..... i just know i am in to my new spectra tank / sender / pump for way less than just 1 of there tanks .

These cost me just a little bit more then what just the tanks are at Napa . Then I would have still had to buy pumps , sending units .

Shipping really kills on large bulky items . My buddy owns a shop here and gets me killer deals . On Aftermarket stuff , and he can usually get the shipping free or super cheap because of the volume he does .

He can’t really get replacement parts though as he isn’t set up for that .

Picked up a very lightly used 8” Skyjacker lift , 2wd steering box ,and new crossover steering today from Craigslist. I was on the fence about running those 38” Toyo’s But now I think it’s gonna happen , with a 1” body lift I should clear no problem.

The donor truck comes home tomorrow. Yard is still far to wet to move but the parts are coming together.

Might drive this for a few days to feel it out before I cut it up . Frame is definitely bent , bad enough that the passenger header just barely misses touching the frame .

It drives decent , pulls slightly to the left

Not sure , it was a Copart rig . I bought it for my buddy he lost interest so I got it back .

Passenger side frame rail is pushed up enough that the front fender is touching the front door at the top and about 1/2” gap at the bottom . And as I said above the passenger header is almost touching the frame .

Well the early spring ended up being a bust , virtually all our snow was gone Thursday except for a little bit from the plow piles .

But then on Wednesday it started snowing and hasn’t stopped we have about 3ft on the ground again .

Neighbors tree cam down from the weight and smashed the side of my M43, I haven’t gone up there yet to survey the damage . I’m mad because I have been asking him to cut that tree since last fall when I noticed how bad it was leaning.

I bet someone jumped it! LOL

I’m not sure what they did lol the fender is dented and the frame is bent , the left side bump stop is ripped off . but the wheels are all fine , as are the tires .

Midas was having a sale this weekend for 40.00 alignment so I took it in and they managed to get it to where it doesn’t pull anymore . I’m gonna drive it around a little and see how I like the 454 this thing has 4.10’s but it feels kinda gutless . Or maybe I’m just used to Diesels now. I didn’t like my 8.1 either .

Ok so the dually actually has 4.56’s didn’t even know that was an option in that year .

So , I made another trade deal and ended up with this : it’s a 2000 K3500 with a 6.5/4L80e and 4.10’s

The dually will give up its diffs , tires , bed, and interior to the 2000 and then I won’t feel bad about cutting up a sorta nice truck just for the engine

@Gregiffer Its your twinner. Nice score.

Old duffer once told me, GMCs use lockwashers, not like those crappy Chevy's, those just fall apart

:rotfl::haha::haha:
I told my Chevy driving buddy that they (GMC) had tightened the bolts tighter (higher torque specs) to keep them quieter inside. And hold them together longer then Chevy's.

I had him going for about 3 months until he finally checked alldata

This must be a fairly common misconception...

Been junkyarding more than once where I have overheard some other fellow complaining that "if it were a GMC I'd take it" or similar...

Dude, do you really think that brake caliper is any different? C'mon...
