'79 K5 Build for the PNW...(Pic Heavy)

how is the ackerman with the steering BTA?

No idea, just got the front axle in tonight...

I've never ran these knuckles and this axle was originally under a K30 crew cab, so everything from when it was set up from the factory is based off a way longer wheel base... Now doesn't have a tie rod in the stock location, the knuckles are custom, I didn't change the perches and I'm running 52" springs... None of the geometry is correct... There's gonna be a lot of trail and error... This will never see pavement and speed isn't gonna be one of it's concerns...

Got a little more done today...

The front axle in... It's on stands so I can finish up the steering...

I cut the bulkhead out of the parts truck to use the material for the front inner fenders...

Then cut the skin off the door...

Got the inner done and welded on the front skin...

Then built a step pocket before the door skin gets cut to size and welded in place...

Great job on the truck. I just read all 13 pages, and looks like you have pretty much built the thing from scratch.

If you ever find your way down to Alabama you can fab me up a cage like that. lol

Thanks guys...

From the start I wanted to stay with the lines of a K5...

I've seen a lot of Blazers that cut all the body off and cage it up, but it never looks like a Blazer again... Don't get me wrong, I like the buggy look... But, there's something about the shape of a K5 that can't be beat...

The doors will get cut so they run with the cage lines, as well as the tailgate... It will just look like I have cut doors...

I'm hoping to have the drivers side buttoned up today...

wow there is so much plate on this....its gonna be a tank....it strength and weight haha

The skins are light...

Most of the weight from your doors, bedsides, tailgate and fenders are on the inside...

I'm only using the outer skins...

You'd be surprised how much double and triple layers of sheet metal GM used on the inside of the body...

Don't worry, it will be weighed and posted...

Your alot smarter than you look

Still have to put in some backer behind the handle and the last seam... Then I'm planning on using a 3" strip of diamond plate just above the slider to protect the skins... I know, the skins will be beat up the first run, I just want to keep it from turning into a mess above the sliders...

Thanks guy...

Yeah, when I thought about taking the lock out I said, "Why?"...

I'll see how long it lasts...:D

Just giving you a hard time. :D

You should stick a key in it, park it at the mall, hide behind some bushes, and see how many people try to open the door. :D

Love your build dirtygoat...your rig is bad ass. I like how you did your rollcage. I'd like to take a look sometime to steal some ideas for mine. Did you design it on the fly or use a design tool to come up with it?

Thanks, the idea has been floating around in my head for awhile now...

When I finally decided to jump in to it I used an old program to draw everything up...

I grabbed a pencil and used the fender...:D
