'79 K5 Build for the PNW...(Pic Heavy)

An older guy up here did them in his garage...

He's been doing shafts for jeep guys for years...

Ask the jeepers in your area who does their axle shafts...

you should do a homeade double write up :P

Looking at what you have there... it doesnt look too hard. Then again could be the Pain pills talking.

I've thought about it...

I need to finish it and get it installed, so I can include cross members and d-lines as part of it...

So far the hardest part was sourcing tools to cut the 4 3/4" hole and 4 7/8" hole... Couldn't find a hole saw that would cut a 4 7/8" hole and the local place wanted $80 for a 4 3/4" hole saw...:eek1:

Found a tool at a small tool shop for $5 that did the job... I'll post up a pic of the tool...:D

Here it is in all it's glory...

Was a little loose even after getting it set up and tightening everything...

I might get it set up again and just weld it solid... For $5, why not...

This last weekend was our Wheelers of Washington 2nd Annual Elbe Hills Fun Run...

Had a blast, weather was perfect...

Finally got to give the Blazer a real work out... It did great, everything worked well... But, I did strip out one of the bolt holes on the 205/400 adapter...:( That happened Saturday night, so I rolled around in 2wd Sunday just watching the action...

Here's a pic of the big tank trap at the end of the log crawl...

I have to fix a couple things and get out for some more testing...:D

Your junk worked well Luey, had a blast at the poker run :D.

I was real happy with it... And I won a $300 gift cert for Billy Bobs Offroad... Still not sure what I'll use it on...

Thanks for towing my junk up there...

Nice flex!

But you need bigger tires:p:

Thanks...

I want to go bigger, but I'm gonna run the 38.5s until they die...

sweet looking rig...mite have to borrow some of you engineering ideas

Thanks...

Go right ahead... A lot of my build is based off of ideas that I came up with watching other Blazers on the trail... I saw what worked and figured out how to make it work for me...

On a side note, I picked up some winch rope today... 3/8" synthetic, 94' long...

I have to wait until next week to pick up the aluminum hawse... They ordered it for me today...

My boys are happy that they wont have to pull cable anymore...:D

Thanks...

Something tells me they'll still be pulling cable... and happy :haha:.

Thanks...

The aluminum hawse came in today...

I got the old cable off the drum, but can't find my allen wrench sockets... So, I'll have to pull off the roller fairlead tomorrow...

Looking good! How much did it cost to get the shafts cut, turned and splined if you don't mind me asking? All of these homemade doublers have me thinking....

Yes this has me thinking. I need more details man! I am really contemplating this. The Atlas 4 is a pipe dream right now with this cage and new seats project.

Paid $80 to have the shaft cut and re-splined...

Haven't worked on it for a bit... Been doing other outdoor projects while we have a little bit of sunshine... I need to get back on it... But, you know how limited of a window we have here to work on outside projects...

Brian, if you go this route just give me a call... I'll get the shaft done for you...

Haha Yeah I think the window is about closed!

I will Luey. I am really contemplating this. Gonna look around for a Th400/203 I think see if I can find a deal. What yr model of 205 should I look for. I'm never gonna run gobs of power, but I am looking for budget. I'm really interested in your home made plate.

Yeah, go with a t400 and 203 combo... I would go with a round pattern 205 with 32 spline input... That way the 203 shaft can be cut and splined for the 205 and you don't have to worry about a coupler like the 27 splines... Round pattern would come from behind a t400, don't know what years... I know the '88 crew cab had one that came stock in it...

You'll need the adapter for the 205, then source out the aluminum plate...

When you're ready to start working on the plate give me a call and we can go over everything... It'll be a lot easier to explain over the phone with you looking at the pics...

Not really much of an update, but my buddy Jimbo brought my the reservoir his buddy built for my full hydro steering... Hopefully this stops the whining from the pump...
