79 K5 H-Bomb build

Lol, that's what the guys at the upholstery shop just said. People keep sayin' that. It's giving me a complex on what I should do with it. :doah:

I've been following along on your build and I love every bit of it. Thanks for checking this build out.

The way your truck is now was the original plan I had in mind when I bought mine but mine was in such rough shape when I got to digging into things that I just decided to more or less start from scratch and replace everything with upgrades. I enjoy fabbing and wrenching so it doesn't bother me that i've been working on it for a year and a half, especially with how awesome it will be when it's actually finished, but I sure do wish I had one like yours to drive right now while I worked on getting the 1 ton build done.

He says earlier that the Dana 60 is already set up for hydro assist and crossover.

If you're comfortable with swapping out the 4 wheel drive to a 2 wheel drive sector shaft in the gear box you could do that. That is if your steering is tight right now and the box isn't leaking like crazy. It should be cheaper that way.

I would think about which one you could do with the least amount of downtime. Is there anything wrong with the current engine? You say it's pretty new.

The motor runs like a top. I went through DEQ when I first got it... 300 is the high threshold and it scored a 56. New cars score in the 30s.

Its nothing special... 355 300hp Jasper motor with smog junk still hooked up. Some gears would definitely help but at the end of the day it just not a very exciting motor. It the gets the job done but I want a motor that scares the poop out of me.

Part of me agrees... Use the donor rig and keep part of the frame, body, doubler and the 42s for a buggy. Add some tube, big block, rockwells, coilovers, and some tube. :)

From there... maybe find some 37s, move the tons and big block over to the blazer and have nice expedition/driver type of rig.

Build a buggy. That k5 is too nice. I'm going from truggy back to full driver k5. Unless you plan on hitting trails every weekend. I only use my truggy 2-3 times a year.

So what is the new plan now that you are selling the 42s? BTW, I honestly think stepping down to a smaller tire was the right thing to do with how nice the truck looks in it's current condition. :waytogo:

Still going to run the big block, tons and doubler. Just going to step down to a 4" lift and 37s. Probably going to stick with pitbull rockers but radial.

I have a couple buddies around here that are having a sh*t fit about cutting this one up too. This build will turn into a very capable driver/expedition rig. I'd like to have it done by next summer to run the rubicon.

I have nearly all the parts although I'm probably going to tear down the big block and build it now that it is going to see some more miles. I got it pulled out of the donor a few days ago.

I like your plan.

I'm sure a few other square bodies will join you on the rubicon if you want company :D

That'd be perfect. That would fun to run the trail with some fool sized chevys.

Picked up some 4" 52s and some 4" fronts... I have plenty of "lift" combination options now. I could use the 2" rear 52s that are currently on the truck with the 4" springs I just bought with the shackle reversal or if the road manners suck... I can swap to the 8" front skyjacker springs I already have too. Lots of choices now. There is also a junkyard down the street if I need stock springs too.

A bomb for the H bomb.

I feel like every time I type stuff like that, the black helicopters start heading this way....

DAMNNNN, that is one big MF'er! :eek1: Is there going to be any grill left in the blazer with that winch taking up so much room?

Hope so. Thanks again for the bumper and making it all work. Can't wait to get it mounted. I agree about the black helicopters. Haha

Were you able to cut "H-bomb" on the bumper?

I didn't have any thing about "H bomb" on my notes. Not sure what happened there. There wasn't a lot of detail on my notes to be honest. It was your name and number and "power plant" and A-bomb bumper.

So I have been putting off the build due to moving... I bought a shop (which happened to come with a house) a few months ago and I've been busy with a remodel and general maintenance. The shop is 5000 sq ft but most is taken up by sport court for the kids:

Pretty cool for them and there is enough left over space for me and my projects...

I've really wanted a lift ever since we move here...my wife surprised me yesterday for Christmas:
