79 K5 H-Bomb build

I've sold four of them in the past two years to shops who use them all day, every day, multiple times a day. Haven't heard one complaint yet.

Awesome shop!

Thanks.... I'll get going on the Blazer again soon. I picked up another project and some more parts for it... now I have to decided what is going on what.

1970 FJ55 (going to be a truggy)... has a dana 44 front and dana 60 in the rear (both open 4.10s). I'm thinking about using those for the Blazer and just running 35s. That way I won't be tempted to beat on the Blazer and keep it as a light wheeler and let the FJ take the heavy beating.

Picked these up for the FJ project:

nice stazworks double beadlocks

So, I'm kinda at a crossroads here... still have a dana 60 with 4.10s and welded front, a 14 bolt with a gov lock, a 203/205 doubler, a decent big block, nice griffin radiator, 17 "raceline beadlocks, set of 38s toyos... etc.

What parts go where? Open for suggestions. :)

tons and 38's on the K5 will make a nice all around rig.

I agree... BUT since that front end is welded I'm not sure it fits what I want the blazer to do, not to mention that the gears are 4.10s which kinda suck with 38s. To make that ideal, I'd put 5.13s and an arb up there which then would lead to swapping out the rear end to 5.13s and if I'm doing that... I wouldnt want to leave that gov bomb in the 14 bolt.

Basically going that route would be kinda expensive... not out of the question but it would delay the fj build.

Or just enjoy the k5 as it is :dunno:

It's a pretty sweet rig the way it sits now.

Man, that fj55 is a bit of an ugly duckling isn't it.

I vote 38s on the 2.5 rocks for the fj :rotfl:

But seriously, do the 3/4 ton stuff and 35s on the blazer and keep it nice or maybe do the front 60 with a new open 4.10 carrier (easy to come by) and the rear open 60 on the blazer. Your call on that. With open diffs front and rear you can always add a Spartan locker or similar later on. First place I would put one in the front and then the rear if you can't or don't want to do both at the same time.

As far as drive train goes, can't remember what you have in there now but I would go 241 behind a th400, sm465, or nv4500. Put the 203/205 in the fj. Don't have an opinion on engines used in either

The FJ will be getting at least 44s if not bigger. My thought on the FJ is the rocks, big block, th400, 203/205, 44 pitbulls or boggers (tires need to come in a 20" diameter for the wheels), full hydro, etc. I could do bigger on the tires but I'd like to be able to keep the wheel speed up for the dunes out here.

The blazer has a nice 300 horse 355 jasper motor in it... has about 6000 miles on it. Ran through DEQ easily. It has a th350 and a np203 behind it. The 10 bolts are in EXCELLENT shape just have sh**tty gears in them.

Ok, keep the 355, ditch the 350 and 203. Pick up another th400 with a 241 adapter and 241.

I'd rather have a TH350 as opposed to a TH400 if I was going to stick with a non overdrive automatic.

I tend to agree... If I used the big block, doubler, or planned on abusing the K5, I'd be inclined to switch out the np203/th350. I'm not sure the hassle or expense in this case is worth it.

That is an idea too but I can't live with the gears in those 10 bolts. Those have to be changed.

If you want to regear might as well spend the money on the D60 and 14B right? If you want to do crossover it's easier with the D60 too.

with the 3 speed trans what gears do you want to run?
