79 Pickup build-Update 11/22 w/ lots of pics

cool stuff, man you ain't wasting no time are ya. How's the weather.
kudos to you for working on it outside.

Dont have any time to waste:D I actually took two weeks off of work to do this... Got called back mon and fri though and thursday it rained. So far the weather has been cooperating.

As for working on it outside, you gotta do what ya gotta do. My dad always had the garage in highschool, so I got used to the grass. Now my house doesnt have a big enough garage, so outside I am again:rolleyes:

looks like you have all the parts to make a great rig :D

i assume that those are the front springs on the table?
if so,what are the specs on them?

Those are 2" rear tuff country lift springs. Im using those on the front with b52 hangers and the rear hanger for an oversized bushing. Still gotta remove the overload.

In the back I'm doing 3" lift 64" tuff country springs with a 4" DIY4X shackle flip. I am moving the hangers around 10-12" forward, along with the cross member.

I'm no expert, but I dont think herculiner would be a good idea over bare metal. Also heculiner holds a lot of dirt too.

It rinses pretty easy. I see no reason it cant go over bare metal. It doesnt say anything about priming in the directions. Also, idk if you've ever got this crap on you, but it DOESN'T come off:crazy:

From their site
"When cured, HERCULINER provides a durable skid-resistant protective coating. Because it can bond to virtually any surface or material, HERCULINER can be applied to wood, metal, concrete, aluminum, asphalt, rubber, fiberglass, and most plastics, including PVC.

"In addition to being used for a truck bed liner, our customers have found alternative uses for HERCULINER around the home and garage," Bohlander said. "4x4 tubs, undercoating, concrete steps, and trailers to name a few, have all been treated with HERCULINER to make a durable skid-resistant surface. This provides additional profit-making opportunities for our savvy retailers who promote the product for other uses."

Yes I learned that gloves are a must the hard way... Same thing with rust bullet...

From what I've seen of the herculiner in my truck, it will dry hard and once the coating is broken, its open season for water to get in and stay in.

Ill have to see... I can always pull it all apart and do it again:rolleyes: This was a quick way to get a coating I trusted. Last time I used it was on my truck floor and it stayed soft. It didnt seem to peel at all. Prep seems to be key. I went crazy getting the frame clean. I used ALOT of xylene

So 2 coats are done on the frame. Came out good, im happy. Got the suspension on, axles under. Need to do some work on the front axle. Its a drw converted 60 and the moron never upgraded to 9/16" studs:doah: Then to makes matters worse, I snapped a stud:doah:(the ones for the springs) so drill it out and extract it?:doah::doah: Broken extractor. So im gonna have to drill next to it and tap another hole.

Got the cab on tonight. Also found out the body bushing I ordered came in wrong:rolleyes: I have alot of brake lines/ fuel lines to run. Im gonna start the bed too. All in all, its starting to shape up. Ill have pics tomorrow

Woah woah woah!

You didn't seriously try to extract a broken wheel stud with a screw extractor? :eek1: :shame:

Wheel studs are pressed in you have to remove the hub to hammer them out and press a new one in. :doah:

No, no, no. On a d60, on top of the pass side diff housing, instead on 2 ubolts, theres only 1 ubolt and 2 studs tapped into the housing.

Hope you can get out there today! its like summer out!! Ill be under my daily driver today after class.. beautiful for us outdoor shop people. looking good nick.

(opps my brothers name is logged in) <--its mike, stockk5

Got a bit done today. Brakelines are just about done. Fuel lines are mocked in place. Got the rear discs on. Cab is mounted.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to get the motor and t case in. And if my parts come in, ill change out the lugs on the d 60 and get it back on four wheels. Gonna start the flatbed within the next day or so as well.

Pics in a few min.

Got the motor in. Started the bed. Need to get a pilot bearing and ill have the tranny in.

Hopefully ill pick up my tbi tanks tomorrow so I can get that in and the bed finished.

Need to find some new wheels / tire too. Theres way to much grinding to do to clear the brakes:crazy:
