80 k5 - frame off 6.0 LS swap

Bump from the grave!
I am home from another deployment and back to work on the truck.

I am trying to plan out my wiring and need some help - what is supposed to go through these holes in the firewall? This picture is from the engine bay, looking back at the wiring harness on the driver's side. The steering column and the brake booster is just to the left of the picture. Use the numbers... what is supposed to go through these holes? Can i use any of these to run wires through?

Thanks yall

image.jpeg 1 is speedo cable
2 not sure because I don't have them hook up but think it ac or cruise it has that orange plug on the right on those wires.
3 has nothing
4 looks like headlights and market lights

Drew, I forget, what year is your truck again? I can take a look under the hood of my 90 or 77 later today if tecks answers aren't quite enough?

haha its literally in the thread title!
mine's an 80. Teck's is an 86 - if you don't mind lookin under the hood of your 77, I'd appreciate it.

I think the e-brake cable is supposed to go further to the right, even on the older trucks? thanks for the help, its hard to plan out where wires need to go when everything is still empty.

The brake cable I think comes thru out by the fender way down near the bottom of the cab. Its not really all that hard to get them back where they go once you get started. Most will only fit in one spot once you get them all laded out.

I'm a dope... Ok I should have a sec tonight to check it out.

OK so the only thing mine has in common with yours is what appears to be number one which the speedo cable passes through.

Hey guys, got a couple questions. What did you guys do for a shift linkage? My transmission didn't come with a shift arm or anything, so I got a Lokar shift linkage but its a straight shot arm and it won't clear the body.

Am I putting this back together right? The rubber gasket right below the steering column is the only thing facing the outside, and then one steel plate screwed into the back of it? I'm pretty sure its the only way it can go back together but it seems weird with nothing but a big chunk of rubber exposed. Pic:

Got my steering column, gas pedal, brake pedal, hydrobooster, and master cylinder in. The gas pedal is a 96 diesel pedal. They were DBW and have the exact three bolt mount as the square bodies. A few re-pins and it hooks right up, although I haven't tested it yet.

# 1 in your pic should be the speedo cable the colum is good the way you got it... yes that plate goes on the inside.
The ebrake cable doesn't go in any of those holes it is more to the left and down on the bottom were the cab goes from verticall and starts to angle back were the iner fender well almost touches the cab.

This is a pic of my very messy 77. :doah:

Not sure what goes through the other holes in you firewall? I got a 79 c10 I could go look at if you need?

Do mind showing how you re-pinned the diesel pedal? I picked one up for my eventual LS swap too but lost the link I had saved about how to make it work:doah:

here's the link for the 8.1 swap where they did the re-pin. Its a PDF file with color photos and nice instructions.

This is Street & Performance. They make the LS Swap Headers that work really well with our frames. Me and Teck both used them. They are fairly spendy though --$650 or so. They come coated and they come with the bungs for o2 sensors.

The Lokar unit can't be bent - with the body lift, its barely long enough as is. Any bend would reduce the length. I'm going to go with an Iddit column-to-cable shifter.

So the Iddit cable shifter didn't work either. I don't know what kind of vehicles these shifters were designed for but there is no way they'll work on a square body. So back to the factory shift linkage.

Still working on a shift linkage solution.

Got some 37's and some H2's for the truck. They look gooooood. Pics to follow.

Where can I get a new 14b full float hub assembly and some new axle shaft bolts?

Not a good pic, but just an idea of what its going to look like with H2's and 37's.

Disk brakes. El Dorado calipers so I can hook up an e-brake sometime in the future if I need one.

Plenty of clearance with 17"s.

Sitting pretty on 37's, H2 rims, 4 inch lift, one inch body, modified front fenders. Neoprene seat covers.

Here's the engine bay. 2002 Lq4 6.0. Headers are S&P. Air intake on the passenger side. Transmission cooler on the passenger side. I had the vintage air block off plate painted to match the firewall.

Driver's side of the engine bay. My ECM is mounted on the driver's side inner fender. Power steering and hydroboost hoses run down the inner fender. Inner fenders were done up in LineX.

One more view.

14 bolt has been trussed with the DIY4x backbone and wraptor. All new seals. Disk brake conversion. Solid diff covers. Shocks have been moved in board.

High Angle CV drive shaft. I was worried about exhaust clearance between the wraptor and the dual exhaust, so I got a set of skinny magnaflow mufflers. The exhaust is all stainless.
