80 k5 - frame off 6.0 LS swap

Funny how that happens, I wish I could take my cab and bed off to do one. :thumb: Instead, I'll be lifting mine up a bit and doing the needed work then setting it back down.

I just got back to Campbell recently from a 3 year stint at Bragg. That being said if you need an extra wrenching hand, let me know.

-Mike

sweet! hell yea i could always use another wrenching hand!
are you with the 101? where you at? i'm still a rakkasan, and i ain't going anywhere any time soon.

I should be good to stay at Campbell until retirement, myself.....in 4 more years. Just give me shout when you need a hand. I do tend to drive my K5 more as a DD than I need to...lol, so you might see it around post.

How'd I miss this one...?

1) Thank you for your service!:bow:

2) Awesome build! :bow::bow:

3) My kid Brother was 101st Air Assault...he's on the Gander Memorial...if your ever there tell him his Big Bro sez Hi...and I miss him...

need some help. engine mounts aren't lining up. i know sometimes some wiggling will do it..... but i think these are pretty bad. i don't think its my frame - the ORD cross member lined up perfectly. check out the pictures.
i think it might be the combination i'm using... ORD engine mounts and DIY4x adapter plates. maybe they aren't meant to work together?

there is an engine mount bolt on the passenger side, but the driver side is more then 1" off.

its always a rough day when you've got an engine dangling over a frame and it won't go in!

If the motor is not hitting anything it should go. Try resetting it and use a line up bar to line it up.

swap them side to side...??

hmm, ive got those same motor mounts sitting on the toolbox in my garage and i'm waiting for my 5.3L from BD turnkey engines. i'll be watching to see what you figure out. i'd really rather not switch back to clamshell mounts.

we swapped the one motor mount bolt around to the driver's side, and the passenger side was off by the same amount.

its not so much an up and down issue - we could lower the engine a bit still, but it didn't help, the mounts are basically 1" too narrow as they are mounted. the only way to adjust the overall width between each lower mount is to move them upwards on the frame mounts - but i can't move them that much. i'd be elongating the holes instead of drilling new ones... not a good way to mount a motor.

ray - you can't swap them side to side.. the plates are directional, they can only be mounted on one side. i suppose i could swap the motor mounts from side to side - is that what you mean? i don't think it would make a difference though. i've got the motor mounts out, and sitting side by side, they look completely identical.

my theory is the ORD motor mounts weren't meant to be used with an adapter plate, so the adapter plates are keepin them from lining up?

The first time I set my engine in I used the diy4x comp mounts and the adapters. They fit just perfect but came way to close to the Ord member.

I would suspect its the Ord mounts.

Its not that far off. You could try loosening all the bolts on the frame and engine on both sides, then get one side in, then pry pry pry push and shove to get the other side. Then tighten the frame and engine bolts.

just ignore the above post...I thought I had deleted the contents...

I went to diy4x's site after I posted...took a look. I think your assumption is right unfortunately...

here's diy's mount...it looks like the legs are more symmetrical...? it looks like the ORD engine mounting bolt hole location is closer to the mounts mounting bolts...(that was a mouthful just thinking it!)

I think that is the problem...

Hmm. So I might be better off selling these ORD mounts and getting something else. Pretty much fits the theme of my build, do it wrong-waste money-do it right.

based on that picture.... it does look like ORD's lower mounts are angled upward, while DIY4x's are more symmetrical. More symmetry in this case would make my problem worse - moving the poly mounts closer to one another. So.... I think I'm going to elongate my holes, bolt them in, (which wouldn't work by itself because the elongated holes will be WAY too big) and then get the mounts welded.

thanks yall.

oh yea, and all the bolts WERE loose when we were trying to fit the engine. there is just no prying the mounts further apart... the attachment points to the frame won't allow them to move outward (or upward) which is what i would need.
