80 K5 Project 454

Well I guess slick inclines or mud holes, my 305 wouldn't spin the tires like it should when going up a slope or coming out of a mud bog, it would just stay where it was at, no tire spin.

what are your gears? 35" tires really require at least 4.10's - which I'm guessing you don't have in the (stock?) 1/2 ton gear you're running. Might be a cheaper alternative to getting more power if you just swap to 3/4 gear with 4.10's. You'd be surprised how much peppier your truck will be. Not going to be a 454 - but it'd get you up hills and out of holes real well.

Already have the 454 and a 14bff just waiting on the d60, I know it was my gears but was just wondering if he had problems, my carbhad alot to do with it too because anytime you give it a decent amount of gas it will flood out

Yup carb problems, gears, and the auto trans are all working against you. Make sure you are in 4lo and 1st to prevent the trans from shifting up and causing the engine to bog even more. Dont be afraid to rev the engine, you want to be at at least 4k rpm for hill climbs and climbing out of mud holes.

Yeah I knew my carb was junk and I'm gonna put a truck avenger on my 454, should I go 650 or 750 CFM? Also whats with all the vacum secondary, electic choke and all that. not sure what exactly to get.

My old carb would flood out on flat land if you pushed it past about 20 degrees

Chaser do you have any trouble on inclines with your 305 and 35's?
I haven't had any problems, but I don't do alot of heavy mudding. There's not a whole lot of places to jump offroad over here in Weatherford.

Hooker Competition Headers worked for me, part number hok-2463hkr mine are for a 79 w/ a 454 and 4x4 w/ an auto.

Get manifolds and cut them between the cylinders, headers are a pain. For a carb go for a Truck Avenger, love mine no complaints at all with it.

Got the headers taken care of, ended up with some ceramic coated flowtechs. I'm going to get the exhaust done tomorrow and wanted some oppinions. I'm thinking about glass packs and coming out on the sides in front of the rear tires. Not sure if I should go straight out the side or angled. What are y'alls oppinions on the exhaust? Glass packs? Mufflers? Dumps? Rear or side?

I have dual superflow 40's that dump out at about the end of the transfer case. They are tucked up though so nothing hits them. sounds really good with my 454.

I wouldn't go with the pipes coming out in front of the rear wheels. They will catch on stuff, get smashed and possibly mess up your new headers as they get ripped off. I would make sure the exhaust pipes have right angles on the ends if you plan to run with the top on and rear window down. There's an air pocket created behind the Blazer while you're moving and the exhaust fumes can come in the cab and make the air noxious if you have the pipes pointing straight out the back. That's why the stock pipes are angled 90 degrees away from the back of the truck. Has anyone else had a different experience with pipes that go straight out the back?
