80's short box, "S.E.R.E." Box permanently attached to the cab.

Are you going factory location with the Steering box?

Technically speaking, Yes, I'm going with the factory location but not in the sense I expect you are referring to.

DIY4X is the factory for this build, so I guess wherever it goes, is the factory location.:D

And here is that location,

The spacers will be sub'd out for a DOM tubing spacer when final weld happens.

And the correct AC compressor. Plenty of space.

Has anybody ever put an AC type clutch on an Alternator?

I think a switch on the back to turn it off would work a lot simpler then figuring out a clutch. Turn it off and it would not drag, if that is what you are worried about.

Would have to be a big switch though

I was thinking both electrically and mechanically, so while not in use, its not just turning the bearings no producing a voltage.

Had also considered an over center type of belt tensioner so a belt could be completely removed or installed in just a matter of seconds. Might still be a good way to go.

Wouldn't de-energizing the alternator coils do the same thing? Basically disconnecting the "energizer" wire via relay would do it. And even with a a/c compressor you are still turning a bearing. So an unenergized alternator would be about the same as what your talking about anyway.

Yes, that's true. Difference is an AC clutch can be had for what, $50ish? This alternator is more like $650.00.

Also why I was thinking the over center bracket to completely remove the belt.

Ask the manufacturer if it de-energizable. Run a regular GM alternator with the monster set up on a relay. Best of both worlds. The monster runs the welder and charges the winch battery, with the standard GM running the vehicle systems.

Yeah if you already have it I understand but mechmans are that price for like 300ish amps last time I checked and they're the same deal with the off idle iirc.

Yeah, if I were buying new I'm sure I'd be looking at all the other high output options.

I understand there is video of this truck playin' in some snow.

this truck....was it being pushed or towed?
Did you mean Bretts truck?

Should have an onboard compressor mounted up tomorrow. Pics to come.
