80's short box, "S.E.R.E." Box permanently attached to the cab.

You've seen Chris' (dirtroadoutlaw) snorkel, no? It was home brew also. You could pick his brain.

I haven't looked at Chris's in detail. We talk quite often though. Just hasn't come up.

How about duplicating the exhaust routing on the left side and place a filter up in the rear some where high.

Not sure I'd want to try to snake a 4" tube to the other side. So far everything is pretty easily accessed for maintenance and repair. I fear a 4" pipe would change that.

You running the factory heat / A/C ?

Plan is for a vintage air unit that is supposed to be entirely behind the firewall. It may complicate getting a pipe through the firewall.

Still there are more options.
 
Is there enough room to move exhaust inside frame and then use that space for the intake?
 
So why not fab up a dual snorkel set up. Basically two inlets one going to the snorkel and one going well somewhere else. On the road both open should be plenty of air. Off road super dusty areas or in deep water your not really gonna be building much boost anyway. Close off the extra and just run on the actual snorkel.

Not sure how you would do this off the turbo. And there might night be any way to actually seal the second one off when needed.

But an idea
 
find yourself a canister filter and do something like this. have the intake snorkel come out at the back of the hood or up thru the cab and out at the base of the windshield..make it so it just sticks up above the hood a couple of inches...pretty sure you have the room to do it

I was thinking something like this intake would be cool on my CC, but just don't see a way to make it look feasible, how bout you?

Probably best at this point to wait till I get the vintage air unit installed and see what that leaves for options.

I think the cleanest would be to run an intake pipe like I did on my blazer. Through the firewall on the floor all the way to the B-pillar and up and out through the roof. Something similar to whats on the ARB snorkel could top it off.

If it were done right, the direction of the intake could be changed from inside the cab while in motion. Heavy rain, just turn the last section of pipe around.

Never thought of it that way, but yeah!

Course the "periscope" wouldn't be in the best location for viewing. I'm thinking behind the front seats. Probably passenger side, kinda got some stuff going on in that corner already so who knows.
 
just going by the turbo inlet size, I'd say 4" is about right. Any smaller and it'd be constricting.

So, no real point in trying to use the ARB style snorkel. Doesn't mean I don't want to get the air intake up higher. Piping a 4" tube up the side of the A pillar might look kinda dumb, just a little to big.

I'll have to think about this one a bit.

J/k, mang. Mine was really meant for a dust-forwarding type job but ain't no water get'n in there unless through the inlet. I used a spectra inline conical filter housing from Summit.

Close-up of the debris catcher. All that is is strategically placed 1/8" filler wire. Pics ain't the best but you get the point. The whole snorkel is built from 4" aluminum tube otherwise except for the 1.5" angle that the bracket is made from. 16ga BTW.

That don't look bad at all! I expected it would look more out of place being that diameter. I'm not 100% certain I seen yours before you posted it here. That's nice to know it doesn't look overstated.

I got a lot of 4" aluminum tubing at the shop! It would be nice to keep it outside the cab in the interests of space and comfort.
 
Back to cooling things down for a moment.

My new radiator showed up today with a hole in the box and two of the coolant tubes and about 1.5 sq. inch of the fins smashed over. For what these things cost these days, I decided it needed to be replaced. Quick phone call and that was straightened. Should have a new one in hand in a couple days.

Clutch master and slave cylinder....

I don't know why anybody thought this roll pin quad seal was a good idea. Be that as it may, I wanted to stay with a matched set for the master/slave and fork. Downside is the plastic line that comes with it. I am trying to keep as much of the plumbing on this thing bomb proof as possible. Obviously some rubber lines are needed where things need to flex. Outside of that I'm using as much steel as I can. With this one though, I feel the need to use the conversion fittings to switch to AN and use an -3 AN line. I hope this don't bite me in the arse later.

So back to the fittings, these are supposed to be a direct fit, not quite the case. I ended up with 4 of them and only needed 2. Which worked out pretty good in the end. Here's a before and after pic of the fitting. The end that goes into the slave and master is to large. I had to turn the tip down by .012" for it to go in.

Nice fix. You gonna use the stainless braided stuff like brake hoses but bigger?

Yep, the braided stuff but its pretty much the same size as brake line. -3AN is 3/16" which I think is about what most brake lines are.

I vote for dual snorkels! One up each side of the cab!

He wanted to tell us about his cooling first, man. Some butt-monkey tore up his radiator.

Butt monkey!! That's a good one. Gotta remember that.
 
If you were to run the intake into the cab, I would think you could forget about adding the AC???
