80's short box, "S.E.R.E." Box permanently attached to the cab.

DO WANT!!!

Great idea! How do you get it started with no center bit?

First layer is done with the standard hole saw set up. That hole now guides the hole saw in to the deeper layers. You have to feed pretty slow.

So the first layer is the firewall and the next layers being the seats and back wall of the cab?

That was my thought. I punched the holes from the engine bay with a standard holesaw just fine. Since he has the big motor in there already from the cab I guess I can see it. Work smarter not harder :)

we had a few interesting moments getting through the iron maidens firewall.... we had to hole saw through a part then made a pointed cutter out of DOM and hammered it through the other part we couldn't saw through......

( I'm guessing that's what you were remembering when you built that bit:thinking:):D

That is not possible. You must have done half the hole sawing job from inside the cab as well. There are at the very least two layers to go through separated by a fair amount of space. That is to say, if you are high enough on the firewall. Low enough, then yes, you could simply just punch through with the hole saw and be done.

I'm going through very high on the firewall. In the cowl area where the wiper mechanism hides.

Haven't had much time at all this week to work on things.

Had a guy out sick for three days this week and in our small shop, when one guys gone it really puts the crunch on time.

That being said, some parts have arrived so that's a good thing. My replacement radiator came in as well as some AN line and fittings for the hydraulic clutch.

Made up some plans to mount the master cylinder to the firewall. Once that's done, i'll get the hydro line made up. Order up double the parts so I can do a spare line at the same time. Decided to do this right away since its not a auto parts replacement piece.

Hope to have some of the engine cage designed up this weekend as well.

It was about 3 years ago, and don't remember a struggle.

Not saying it is a struggle to go at it from both sides. Just trying to build a better mouse trap. My cage is already in place and not easily moved. Doing half the work from the inside of the cab isn't practical for me at this point.

Yah I get yah. Work smarter not harder.

This picture is from earlier in the thread. I went backwards just a tick today and made some modifications to it.

This is a shot of the clutch master cylinder for the dodge. If you can make it out in the not so great photo, there is a square flange with the corners knocked off.

Those go into the new firewall panel, and then the master cylinder gets a 45* twist to lock the corners behind the panel.

This piece bolts on to the back side of the panel as a locking device. Now the master cylinder can't rotate so it can't come back out of the squared hole.

Nah, didn't really spend any time toward it. Busy as hell. One of my guys was out for 3 days and that never helps.

My guys want to hear it run pretty bad but there isn't any real need to start it up. Only thing I'd need to do is get a hose off the power steering pump back in to the return side of the circuit. Not about to run it dry.

OH, and buy a battery but that would have me wanting to buy two batteries to get a matched set. Then I got to get out the tender and have that hooked up all the time. Just not sure its worth the headache for a while yet. Maybe when I start putting the dash in.

I hear ya.. I run across the same issues.. your hearts going "ooo, I wanna see this working", yet the brain says, "eh, get on with the priorities"

take your time on my order if that helps at all, I'm in no rush..

Should be into it early part of the week.

So, this is a shot of the hole saw extension through the firewall on the front side.

Tubes in place and welded to the cage. Haven't welded to the body yet.

Also go the steering reservoir finished up today but didn't get any pics of it. I'll post them up tomorrow.

putting a disco there so the engine cage is removable? or just slugging the next section in?

Disco.

Seems the smart thing to do if some serious engine work is required.
