80's short box, "S.E.R.E." Box permanently attached to the cab.

Nope, still weird.

I wish you would have tried to minick some sort of factory grill.

But bonus points for going so far out of the box that if you tried to make it look factory and f'ed it all up you wouldn't get hung out to dry.

I agree, its the light setup that is throwing everything out of whack for me. Pretty, pretty please make the lights flush with the grill instead of behind it. It would look and perform way better. I know you said it was easier to have them behind the grill for removal but I think it would be worth the extra effort.

receiver tube winch cradle is done.

My question is why? Most people i talk to with hood pins don't really love them....

The factory latch wont work with your setup?

Personally I don't much care for the factory cable setup. Had a couple cables break on me and I can't remember how many had a vise grip for a handle on the end of the cable. Just a pain in the ass when they break and it seems at some point they break.

S.E.R.E.

EDIT,

I've had hood pins on a few vehicles and never had any problem with them. They're pretty straight forward. Not sure what there is to dislike about them.

I like hood pins. Look at some circle track stuff too Kert.

In all reality with nice hood pins I would much prefer them over conventional hook systems

Yeah, looked at some of that stuff too.

The simple ones have always worked for me however, they do get scratched up from the pin inserting. That's the one down fall.

The fancier ones, billets and what have you look like they would look nicer for a longer period of time. I don't see them contouring to the curvature of the hood very well.

Truth be told, I could pretty easily make my own and if I decide to go with the simple ones, i'll probably do just that.

I have these on the Regal, no pin to lose, no wire to flop around, small and out of the way, lightweight, and cheap...

moroso hood pins

Just make sure the clips are back before you close the hood. I installed them with the clip sliding back so when you open the hood gravity keeps the clip open.

I can't help to wonder how a couple of Jeep JK hood latches would look mounted to the front of the hood.

my boss has a JK with curved metal hood latches, I can get a pic next time he drives it to work.

Final rendition of the grille is being cut tomorrow.

I broke 2 factory hood latches on my K5. I finally went to hood pins. I broke 2 of the big bolts, the actual pins if you will. I had to make my own by welding 1/4" tabs on the heads of grade 8 bolts before everything finally held together.

Got any pics of where you put them on the hood? Did you go in the hood bumper holes?

Sorry I do not have a good pic.
The only ones I can find is when I had type cheap junk ones on.
I did not use the bumper holes. I drilled about one inch towards the center and one inch towards the back.
They were too short out of the package and I had to build some spacers to get them to go through the hood. I think I used some 1/2" tube I threaded I think those were about 3"

We went ahead and made some today out of some 5/8" steel. We'll make the plates for the hood tomorrow out of 1/8" aluminum and bolt, not screw, that to the hood.

Tomorrow I will pick up some pins and some cable for lanyards.

When the truck comes apart for finish work these along with a handful of other small pieces will get sent off for plating.

Made some good progress today.

Hood pins,

Of course on final adjustment we'll have the pins running front to back.

Got a horn bolted in, jury is out on whether its loud enough. It's good enough to be legal. Radiator overflow built and damn near bolted on. Some other small tihngs finished up, like the hoses for the power steering cooler on the passenger side.

Got a LED light bar on the way as well as a clutch res. and windshield washer bottle. Just went with factory replacements there.
