80's short box, "S.E.R.E." Box permanently attached to the cab.

If you are putting speed holes in gussets, you can probably remove the gusset all together and be nearly as strong. Stamped centers would be the lightest and stronger than plate thanks to the shape.

I would disagree.

Wouldn't you need to know the size of the gusset and the size of the hole to make a statement like that?

Got a little time on the chassis today.

Forward cab mount. I decided to build in a 1" body lift.

Front spring hangers. I still need to box the front and rear of the plates that set the hanger at the appropriate height. They look extended in the photos but compared to the factory, they are not.

Just the gut reaction from designing race cars where saving every ounce matters on a 330 lb car. Designing intelligently is definitely key. Knowing forces, stress on material, etc rather than removing material to make it look better/lighter which most back yard car builders do (and where the term speed holes I believe originates).

like to new body mounts Kert, nice design and execution of an original looking piece!
so did you move the body mount up 1" on the frame or are you actually going to have a 1" taller bushing in the mounting pieces?

I made it 1" higher on the frame.

I'll have to snap a pic with the body mount poly bushing sitting on it. It's a lot more compact. Never really understood why they were so big from the factory. Probably to spread it out over more area on the frame. Much less of a concern for me and this frame.

Hopefully you have those body mounts saved somewhere I know a guy that maybe could use a set :deal:

Hey Kert I don't know how hard you plan to wheel this one but since spring hangers are actually super vulnerable you might think about wrapping the edges with some solid rod. I did that on Hortons are they are literally the only spring hangers I have not bent.

Even if they are boxed in as much as possible it still helps.

Sure do!

Not a bad idea. I had some reservations about the design I had going there so I pulled those back off today and doing a little redesign. I'll have pics of those tomorrow.

Also got the poly mount sitting on the body mount and will grab a pic of that tomorrow.

Looking awesome Kert, nice job on the...well...everything!

Redesigned front spring mount. Wanted to create a fish plate out of it as well, sort of killing two birds with one stone. And a more accurate way to install them on the frame at the same time.

Would it be possible to get a pic of the spring hanger head on? In both of the pics it looks like the plate is flat against the frame, yet on the hanger it looks like the plate is an inch away from the frame. It's either an optical illusion or I'm unable to visualize what's going on.
Been racking my brain ever since you posted the first pic of it.

I was thinking the same thing. The only thing I can figure is the hanger is is an inch or so below the frame:popcorn:.

What did you use to get the rolled over edge on the ends of the body mounts? Just weld some flat stock on and grind it out or was it pressed?

You can see what he started with here before bending them around...
