The frame would be coated on the inside after all the welding was completed and before it saw constant duty as the air tank.

Agreed, air tanks are cheap its the space they consume that I was more concerned about. I have a plan for most every square inch of the usable space.

Most of all, I didn't want to run air lines any more than absolutely necessary. In my experience, that's where the failures are.
 
let it sit like that for a half hr and it'll slowly get worse to a certain point and then stop. scary looking
 
I have a tank on mine. In a space that really could not put many things there works rather good out of the way air line was easy to run.

Have not had an issue with it leaking.
 
I've used rectangular tubing for air tanks in several different situations. In fact, my shop has air manifolds about every 15' that we built in house. The bottom portion is rectangular tubing. They have 160 psi on them every day and haven't had an issue. They do not swell. They are 2 x 3 x .125" wl. The crew cab had an air tank made from 2 x 8 but can't remember the wall thickness. It didn't swell that I know of. Still have it and can check. I believe it was a thicker wall. The 2 x 4 x .125 wall in this frame is not showing any signs. All my welds are holding just fine.

It really all comes down to just a few things, square inches of wall, psi in the tube and the material/construction used to contain the pressure. Square inches of the wall is still a variable. PSI in the tube is to some degree still variable. Material is pretty set in stone but contruction is still variable. Lots of ways to make changes.

Fortunately, I don't have to be in a rush to make a decision in this matter. It could wait right up until everything get pulled back apart for final paint.

I guess if you are dead set on it you could go to town drilling half in holes through the center of the tubing wall across from each other and plug weld 1/2 bar stock across the width of the rail.

Was thinking the same thing. Tubing across the hole would make for a cool look but have to investigate what other effects that would have on the frame strength.
 
Wraptor anti wrap system is in, and this is bringing about the development of a new product that one of the CK5 guys suggested some time ago.

Hopefully we can show you that little piece tomorrow.
