'82 K5 Blazer aka Death Trap Dixie

This Sunday I finally got some shop time in so this is an actual update! I started of doing a little plastic work on the K5 Dash at home. Then I went to my shop and ripped out the last of the interior: seat, carpet, sound insulation (just a little left on the trans tunnel) and I figured out how to get off all the damn glue. It took a while but engine cleaner and a metal scraper was the answer for the most part. Even tho no one will ever see it, I want to paint the floor before the KilMat goes in. I used my go-to paint which is satin black engine enamel, it also happens to be an exact match to the exterior paint. There's 2 small holes in the floor so I'm gonna do the right thing and pretend I didn't see that.
Since I bought the truck the only molding left has been bugging me but I keep forgetting it... so after standing in the scorching sun all day I ripped it of. Now I have to paint that too... great!
At this time it was closing in on 6pm and I have to get up super early on Monday so I started cleaning up my mess. By 5:58pm, right according to plan, I was ready to leave... At our yard we have an electronic gate, you call a number and the gate opens, you can probably see where this is going... nope, didn't work and I was stuck on the inside with no other way to open it, at least not without a key to the control panel, which I don't have. I texted my shop-neighbor and he had to come let me out.

I don't panic easily but sitting there tired, hungry and thirsty in over 30°C/86°F heat knowing I can't get out, it wasn't fun! It’s amazing and a bit scary how many thoughts go thru your head when your locked in and can’t get out… that was just an hour, imagen going to prison, I would not do well...:eek2: I like my freedoms way to much.:ROLFLMAO:

The floor ain't pretty but it's in one piece. Finally clean and ready for paint!

The very front bit still needs some paint, I ran out.

No more tailgate molding, the banner is staying tho. This tailgate must've come from another K5, the truck was originally that bright blue color but the tailgate is silver.

Swinging by for a little update, I'm still working on the K5 dash and it's coming along nicely, it's just very tedious. So much sandin' and muddin'! I'm getting a little stressed because fall is here and it's getting colder and colder. I need this done before it's to cold since I do most of the work outside and I don't function very well in the cold.
Do you have any idea how much it sucks trying to get that wavy metall base straight!?

As of right now, the drinker side is 96,7% done, I'm down to a few pinholes and one or two areas that need smoothing out. The defrost/vent cover and the aluminium band fits damn near perfect in their places.
Captain side is about 78.4% done, I need to extend the bit that goes out over the instrument cluster because the metall base is about 1/2"-3/4" shorter than the padding. It won't cover the instrument bezel which looks really bad.

In progress, imagine a lifted 4x4 crew cab squarebody truck with this sick patina! (or any classic Chevy truck for that matter):p

The filler primer takes care of most of the imperfections. Time for more sanding...
