'83 K30 - Budget build one ton

Bought some new 5.38s for the 14ff from all pro off road for under 200$ and sold me a bearing kit minus the shims for fifty bucks .grate deal I thought .he says the front gears will only be 160+ bearing kit ?can't make up my mind on a front diff that is on ksl d60 ,5.38 ,arb 1700$ . Also do I use me mig to weld the rear diff up or I do have a stick welder ,can't find the link of the write up on that.I also bought new center pins for the 56 in the rear , old ones were bent do you think I will need to add a block with the shackle flip to mach the 6-7in on the front .

I welded my 14b a couple years ago with flux core. It is holding up to 40s in the rocks. Figured I had nothing to lose if it broke, it's a G80 so who cares.

If it helps I sold one of my front 60s to Randy at AD4WD in SLC for 900.00 and had a friend do the same thing recently but he got 1k. That might help the cause for that 60 on ksl and rme if it's only an extra 700.00, plus I'm sure the guys negotiable. Does the 60 on ksl have chromos, steering arms, 35 spline otters & drive slugs? If so that sounds like a killer price.

Not sure on welding the spiders, I would use the mig since that's all I have:dunno:

I say go lower than 6 or 7 inches if you can for a dedicated rock rig.

Edit; just checked the add on rme and it does have 1 steering arm and 35 spline otters.

I think I'll give the guy a call on the 60 today and make an offer . Sold a set of one tons to big ug this week to go to the cause for 1000 wish I had herd of that randy guy before , big ug just sold him dodge one tons for 1300 so he could buy my chevy one tons . Didn't see that one coming .as for the one I want I don't know if the stubs are 35 spline or not the add just says 35 spline arb and new hubs . Have you talked to him befor ? Gess I'll finde out today

I know how you feel:doah:

I was asking 900.00 and got it, my buddy was asking 1k and also got it. I heard he got a contract to build some mine buggies and needs a whole bunch of passenger drop 60s. I have another one to sell but it's a DRW and I've been to lazy to pull it, I'm also out f jack stands:doah:
I haven't talked to the guy or even know anything about him.
Good luck.

Just buy it Scott sell your other one and call it good. If you get it for $1700 and sell yours for $1000 the ARB is worth the difference.

New dana 60 on the way

So I went and looked at the arb 60 today ,offered 1500 and agreed on 1600 . Needs to have the ring and pinion set up as the people who set it up the first time did it wrong and I don't know if they installed the o rings ( Thayer are in a bag ) and it has a lot of backlash. It hasn't Ben run that way at least . It's only 30 spline outer and some one welded the caps to the ears of the yokes on both shafts! Also They cut and moved the purch on the driver side in bord 6 in to fit a toyota . Its got new gears and the Air locker braded brake lines and x over steering arm ,new 30 spine premium warn hubs and factory spring plates . Every thing other than the shafts looks to be in good shape . Dose any one know if I can change the gear inside the warn 30 spline hubs to 35 spline ? Think I better change the stubs to 35 spline while I'm fixing the red neck bs all so dose some one make a hd front driver side spring pad ?

You also need a set of 37 in bfgs and 24 bolt dbl bead locks we can make a package deal

Sell your 30 spline hubs for 100.00+ and also the stock stub shafts for ?? dollars then use that $$ to buy these.

more pics

do you think I should switch the rear springs so the short end is at the rear of the truck for better rear angle ?that would mean a drive line change as well $ need to remove the disks from a ten bolt and have them turned and install . I think i will just get new calipers for the rear brakes all of the used ones I have are old and crusty .

Nice progress:waytogo:

But I think those spider gears could use some more weld...
And I also think you could move the rear shackle hangers forward a bit, to improve the shackle angle

I'm running my 56s backward and love them... Do it...

And yeah, you need some more wire on those spiders...

Otherwise, looks like a great direction you're going in...

that was just for mock up ,welded it more after that ,i think the shackle is siting like from no wight on it . its at the factory location to the frame when stock just flipped over ? anybody done it this way , I just left the small lower mount on and mounted the front spring hanger over that so the upper shackle bolt is at the same location as it was factory .
