'83 K5 6.2L Diesel 64" rear springs. 3/4 ton axles. rear discs. Boring but works!

Any of you guys resealed the steering gear?
Mine leaks badly from the input seal mainly but also possibly the sector shaft seal. I have more leaks at the pump also. Eventual plan is 2wd box and crossover and new pump and all new lines. I have flat top knuckles that need to be machined and my balljoints are getting loose on the 10B. The plan eventually is to build my D44 with new inner seals and get the knuckle machined and new balljoints and then transfer all the outter stuff over from my 10 bolt but that won't work money wise til at least winter and I'll have to do a little at a time. I can either keep putting Lucas in my current leaky stuff and park it in the gravel or try and reseal the gear to slow it down some. I've done input seals on semi gears but they are easy an lots bigger. Never been into this little stuff at all.
Also what are the year breaks/changes in the gears? Didn't they change the fittings or something at some point? I have a few used 2wd gears in Utah with my parts pile. I know one is from a '77 2wd and not sure if any are from the 80s. The '77 one is complete pump/gear/hydroboost and all hoses

I have completely gone through 2 steering boxes, and I will say that you can do it too. The input seal, if I remember correctly, is easier to do by pulling the preload adjuster off. I believe that there is an O ring there too. I counted the number of turns to remove it. And I taped the splines to protect the new seal. The sector shaft seal is easier, IMO, even if you pull the shaft out.

I thought someone said that the flare fittings were discontinued in '78, but I am not sure, and there is an input shaft change in '79, I think.

Got some goodies from Kert at Diy4x with my gift certificate from Blazer Bash. Installed the new poly bushings in the front eyes and installed my springs with some grease able 9/16" and 1/2" bolts. Used some 1/4" thick washers up front to take up the space using 3" bushings in 3 1/2" hangers. Installed everything hand tight for now just to see how it looked. I might have to do some axle relocation plates to kick it forward an inch or so without lifting it further but I need to check my steering and tire clearance.

Looks good. Are you doing x-over steering?
No monies right now. I think I will replace my p/s pump and all the hoses(they all look original) and reseal my gearbox for now. Future plan-machine flat-top knuckles, rebuild d44(that I already have tore apart), 2wd gear and crossover.

Nice parts stash. What's the plans for the truck?
Not sure, I've had it for many yrs. It's pretty much just a cab sitting on a frame with some temp axles and suspension under it. I have lots of parts to build it and a better frame for it. It's titled as a 2wd with a six cyl but has a 4wd floor and it's a manual trans truck. My wife wants it built into a truck she can drive. Maybe big ass somewhat nice mud/sand truck and do a tube bed with a rear seat for the kids.

Did some stuff. Torqued u-bolts, installed drag link, installed some shocks I had. Prob too short. About 2" up and down travel from ride height. Greased front suspension. Painted stuff.
Need to install wheels, diff cover, and remove trans crossmember spacers. I'll fix p/s leaks later on. Might need a shorter raised steering arm.
Diff cover looks really red but it's Chevy orange. Might need to be Allis Chalmers orange instead lol but I might leave it since I did a nice job painting it. 20170725_221342.jpg 20170725_221555.jpg 20170725_223512.jpg
