okay so this will be my first k5 build im still fairly new to mechanics so bear with me haha:waytogo: Anyway, I bought this truck 4 years ago when I was in highschool as my first vehicle it was my daily driver (loved the gas mileage) it was in pretty bad shape when I got her would barely stay running, stuck in third gear, and motor would barley pull itself around I think the compression was like 40 psi or something on a few of the pistons and interior was just destroyed so I started fixing her up slowly.
This is the day a brought her home.

I don't have a lot of pictures of inbetween then and when I started the engine.
****ty 305

nice shiny engine me and dad built, I didn't know much about engines back then haha so heres just a rough detail of what is has, 400sbc bored over .40 longer rods had to have the crank case grinded out to fit em forged pistons 007 iron eagle dart heads roller rockers not sure about cam I know its not that big though.

dad putting on the flywheel

iv done some other various things over the years just to make her drivable but now that I have another truck, this is where the build starts this is how she sits now

this is probably going to be a really slow build, I run a small engine shop I opened up a year ago so that takes a lot of my time. but il keep ya updated and I love pictures so youl get a bunch of em haha. anyway I wanted to atleast start a build thread so hopefully it will keep me motivated on it!

Ideas:
take engine out, put in bigger cam
clean up engine bay with line x and rewire certain things I did when I had no idea what I was doing lol
strip interior fix all the body rust and holes on the inside line x the floor pan
maybe new dash
amp and subs
repaint the exterior
im going to try and not go crazy with it I wanna be abe to do some light wheelin if I want to but it wont be used for that regularly.

Awesome. Love my 408. Yours looks much nicer though.

Thanks! its a really decent engine I haven't had any problems with it since I put it in couple years ago, other than some light leaking around the timing cover but nothing iv ever worried about. with a bigger cam shed be pretty mean:waytogo:

Yah they are nice engines. I like the torque.

What do you use your rig for? Just a driver or wheeling?

Mainly just a driver. Occasionally I play in the mud or snow. But not much.

So made a small purchase yesterday, a new rear window regulator cable needed it to get the window working again i cant even use a drill on the thing to get it down the cable is totally messed up. so once that comes in il start stripping out the bed but i may start tomorrow stripping out the front il have some more pictures later tomorrow maybe as i strip out the interior!:waytogo:

You should reinstall the AC.

Martin

i want to, when i bought it the guy said all the A/C parts were brand new and i removed them for the new engine but i do want to reinstall it. i have to go through the dash and make sure all the AC/heat components are working. right now i only have heat on the floor i cant get defrost or anything else so im assuming all the linkages have broke inside

made a little progress yesterday. trying to get the passenger seat out. took forever one side the two bolts came out fine but the other side they were completely rusted together so had to take an air chisel to em:D but one bolt was so bad I couldn't get it to come off so I just unbolted the seat from it and have to try to weld another bolt to it and impact it later.

the start cut some NASTY carpet out to see what was under it

I found this :eek1: oh fun

I also got this in the mail yesterday the window regulator cable from LMC arrived before they said it was going to ship out

works great now! I thought the motor would be bad because before it was kinda slow but it musta just been the bad cable from before cuz it rolls down and up really fast its great

Awesome. If you lube the mechanism it works even better. I though mine was gonna break it went up so fast lol.

that's what I thought when it was rolling down lol now if just my driver side and passenger side windows worked that well. :doah:

haha I wish mine had the crank I don't mind the rear window being electric(as long as its working) but all my other vehicles have had manual crank and I like it better

okay so here are the pics after I got the front seat out, not much progresse like I said Im usually pretty busy. tomorrow I should be able to put a few good hours in out it so well see what I can do tomorrow.

That damn pesky bolt:doah:

collected lots of crap over the years

so well see what I can get done tomorrow. were waiting on moving the shop to a new building so until then I have to make sure the blazer can be driven. after we get moved into new shop il be able to park it and strip it all down.

okay so got a bunch done today basically everything up front is out other than the wiring that was ran underneath the carpet. everything went pretty smooth today so that mean the next thing is gonna suck:haha:

took out the top of the console so I could drag the welder across

got the bolt welded and with the impact she came out easy

got the most of the carpet out on the passenger side looks pretty badly rusted and found another hole im wondering if I should just replace the passenger side floor pan??:dunno:

Now on to the drivers side. I thought it would be much worse than the pass side but it wasn't all that bad, but that carpet was soooo nasty coming outta there. :eek1:

driver seat came out with ease but iv had it out before so I figured it would

a kill switch I thought would be a good idea kinda a waste of time it works but its just pointless to have haha

driver side is in a little bit better condition but still needs to be fixed its starting to go.

taking out the console. made this myself few years ago when I got it out of scrap wood i had laying around at the time. it worked haha and yeah that's my wiring nightmare under it.

and here is when I got it all out. the driver seat will have to go back in so I can still drive it. but I can work to the back now all it needs basically is the seat taken out I had already stripped it out when I first got the truck.

wont be until Saturday before I can do anymore to it, might have some time this week but not much.
