83k5 Build

just for another picture heres one of mine, it came out good but i probably had to work harder then dueling to get there because some spots flaked off and i needed to clean it up again and repaint it. once i did that it stuck good and i hit a few spots with a hammer and chisel and it didnt wanna come off so im glad about that

Edit: and i also dont use carpet, i just see carpet as something to absorb water and form rust underneath, but i also use my k5 as more a toy so i dont car how loud the interior is because for me thats part of the fun.

I forgot I had seen your build on here that looks good to. And I'm still tossed up about carpet I also don't care how loud it is cuz mines a toy as well and your right as water proof as my blazer is:haha: it will just hold water and do it again eventually. But then again I think carpet looks good and adds that comfy feel haha. But IL wait to see how the line looks.

was rereading through this and see you run a small engine shop. What kind of builds do you do?

when I say small engine shop I mean "small engine" shop. So I work on anything from chainsaws to small tractors and everything in between. The old guy that started the place had passed away and the building was empty well my dad needed a small shop to store things from his business well the old mans daughter who still owned the place asked if I wanted to tKe it over. I said sure why not. And now I do service on commercial pressure washers for my dads company as well

I'm just assuming by build you mean building engines well I have only built my one haha :D

haha i see. i was wondering that after i asked the question, i wonder if he mean small shop or small engines aha. Either way at sounds like a good gig ya got going :thumb:

haha yeah it does alright especially in the spring, gets so packed i just work on em wherever there sittin dont have enough room to move em haha:waytogo:

picking a color scheme

okay so im wondering about color schemes i know i want the blazer to be as dark or darker purple like it is now and the hardtop to be bed lined and as the cab floor and what not, but i was wondering what other color should i mix in as well same with the interior i know black will be the primary color inside but what else should go in it? i was thinking neon green or like red or something but i dont know if red would mix well with the purple? just wondering what ideas you guys have ?

oh and wage on that dash you put in your blazer does it bol right in or do you have to do any fabricating to get it to work? i think im going to go with a dash like that i love the way it looks

Its a DIY4x dash, got it from kert (cyberfire). It does bolt right in, but you need to cut away the skeleton of the stock dash, ill see if i can find a picture for you of mine.

strip dash down to this:

had to cut this out with angle grinder and cutoff wheel:

and this is what it looks like after, from here it will bolt right in using the bolts on the sides of the interior (i left a little lip left of the skeleton so i could attach defrost):

okay i gotcha. when we get to the other shop and moved in il be able to do that, i love the look of it. it looks like it frees up some more room up front to? but im still messing with the floor of this thing :eek1: but il have some more pictures up to night of what iv done, its slow goin:screwy:

JJ is your man for gauges, hes a dealer. His name on here is 'Ion', he will give you a great deal on a set of autometers trust me.

okay finally made enough progress to justify some more pictures:thumb:

okay got the inside cleaned up a little bit so I can start messing with the rusty stuff

got the headliner and interior trim all out as well

started grinding some stuff and and found a few spots on the passenger side

then this really bad spot tried grinding at first but ended up cutting it out

im hoping that the bed liner will hide the horrible welding, for some reason I couldn't find a happy medium on the welder either it wouldnt burn in or it would burn up and eat the floor pan finally found something that worked just took an awfully long time.driver side needs the same thing

then I was hammering on some other welds to make sure they weren't coming out and I missed I wasn't tapping very hard but I found about three other spots that were pretty weak im going to finish them up tomorrow. hopfully finish up the entire passenger side then on to the driver side.

the bed isn't to bad nothing really rotted out, slight surface rust but nothing bad

bed pictures

roll bar

one spot that is rotted out on the bed is right there in front of the fender well.

that's what my uncle said, hes restored tons of old muscle cars and trucks and he keeps saying it could be a lot worse, other than the rocker panels its not super bad. but I figure rocker panels always go.

oh and good to know about the gauges when it comes time to that il get ahold of that guy.

My floors look way worse than yours, whoever worked on it before me did some aweful patching but its solid and thats all i care about
