83K5_blazer (she’s back!)

Rust repair and trying to un-f*ck everything the PO's had done.
It’s not at all right now. I haven’t touched it in a couple months, other than just driving it. I’m going through a divorce now and living with a fiend of mine. Half of my stuff is here at his place and the rest is still at the house. This thing has turned into my daily driver again too. I got a Nissan Pathfinder to drive around when I moved out of the house, that is super clean, that is now just sitting in the driveway. It decided to start blowing coolant all over from an unknown location (somewhere on the front left portion of the engine) last week and I have no idea how to fix it or where to start. If it was a sbc, I could fix it all day long..

Anyway.. it’s still the same as it was for now. I just used her a couple months ago to set up tree stands and she made the 300+ mile round trip just fine.

Glad that the truck is doing well, sorry to hear about the other stuff.

Bump! Ain’t heard from you in awhile!
Yeah... just going through shit still and haven’t had time to do much of anything other than work. I’ve been throwing around the idea of selling the Blazer but I can’t bring myself to do it. It’s not costing me anything just sitting there and at this point I’ve got to much time and money in it to sell it. Im just ready for everything to blow over and start over again. Thanks for checking in!

I know the feeling all to well. Keep it, unless it starts adding to your frustrations then we’d understand, but as long as it’s not an issue you may as well keep it

Not much of an update but it’s been a while since I’ve posted. Can’t wait to get this thing done. I think this spring I’m going to get started on it again. I recently got an 01 Nissan Pathfinder as a daily driver since everything has happened and it decided to take a shit. I tried my hand at replacing the 3 timing chains and gears and after doing it twice, it’s not running for shit. The K5 has become my daily for now but luckily I have a “company car” so I don’t have to drive it much. I’m thinking more and more about doing an LS swap.

Just read the entire thread. Sorry for your troubles, but I dig the truck. If it were me, it would be my emotional liferaft.

Haha! Thanks!! I’m going to try and go Monday and see if a guy that does all the tows for my employer still has an 87ish K5 in his lot that I can strip the body off of and do a frame up on this thing.

...I also just found a fullvert close to my area that they want $1500 for and that is my end goal with this ‘83. I’m guessing I can get it for less, looks like it’s sitting in a field and has been for a while. I’ve been looking for a daily driver but this thing just keeps pulling through as being the one I want and need. I just want to get it back to the former glory it deserves.

Just found out today I might be able to get an 87 body and frame for free today and I’m planning on issuing the frame to do a frame up on mine. It’s a lot like mine, 350,700r4, np208 and 10blt’s. My plan is to take the body off of it, strip the frame, rebuilt the trans, tcase and diffs/ axles and then throw my 83 body on it after it’s cleaned up. I’m ready to get going on this thing again and help move on from everything going on in life right now.

Just read the entire thread today, awesome work and sorry about the life struggles.
but keep the Blazer it can either be therapy or anger management, almost like a dog.
Especially if its like mine an pees everywhere I park it

Hopefully I didn’t bite off too much. Haha! This is the most I’ve done to this thing in a long time. But with everything going on right now, it’s felt good getting out here and working on it and clearing my head. I hope to have the outer skin tacked on tonight and I’m wanting to relash the rockers after that and see if that helps any.

Slow progress but it’s progress.. I got the drivers side primed and the pass. stripped and primed for the most part. Im going to have to headache spots in front of both rear tires when it comes to finishing it all. Im going to straighten it as much as possible and then fill the rest. I just don’t want a ton of filler in it like there was before.

I need new front fenders but finding OEM in this area without rust or beat to hell is damn near impossible. I also need to get that rear shackle flip done.

Just got serious about getting this thing done and looking good and that led to the factory rally’s I picked up a while back. I’ve been trying to get in to a tire shop here and get the old tires taken off so I can really clean those wheels up. Every shop is booked and my mild OCD was kicking in and I went to the ol’ harbor freight after work and picked up one of those tire removal tools.

For $39, not bad! A little elbow grease and within 30 min I had all 4 tires removed. The part that sucks is the wire brushing the wheels clean. I attempted to have these taken to a local place and blasted and powder coated but again, everyone is booked and I want this shit done now!

A side note, I need these factory rally’s on to drive the truck. Someone had the great idea to put factory acorns on with the Outlaw II’s and almost lost a tire and wheel a few months back on the highway because of it. I looked EVERYWHERE for the correct mag nut and can’t find them anywhere. But, I wanted to go with the factory rally’s anyway eventually.

This got a lot longer than I intended.. the short of it, after assembling the tire “machine”, building a base, removing the tires, I didnt have long to actually clean them tonight, other than one. Below is bare, primed and first coat of the color. I’m very happy the way it turned out!

Hurry up and get the rear done. Looks like a squatted bro-dozer or a dog wiping it's ass on the carpet with the rear low like that. :haha:
Is this better?! Haha! Finally got around to it..

So I got tired of not seeing any progress on this thing and seeing parts everywhere just waiting to be installed. It took a couple hours but I love the way it turned out! And as always, pictures..
