84 crawler build

whoever put this damn hub locknut on the spindle tightened it, so i bought one of these online today. once it comes i am going to strip it down to the knuckles and sand blast it.

got the hubs off and shafts out. good news is that the brake pads and rotors are in good shape. I didnt realize that the outer shafts were so much smaller than the inners, are they all like that? looks more like a 60 inner and a 44 outter?

From what I've heard yeah. The stock outers are a major weak point.

yea makes since. I want to buy new u-joints but there is so much i need right now they are going to have to wait. for the 60 alone i still need:
1. SRW hubs and rotors
2. U-bolts and spring plates
3. crossover steering arm and kingpin rebuild
4. drive flanges or hubs

on another note, because of money i decided not to sandblast and powdercoat the axle, but insted to preasure wash the hell out of it and use rustbullet + rustolem paint on it. got it down to the knuckles and washed it today. pics after her bath

Thanks. Got the axle painted after dinner tonight so im ordering the u-bolts and plates right now, install soon to follow.

PS. T-12 days until the little one arrives, i guess she is being built to so she can be in the build thread right?

Its going to be a c-section so hopefully no fists swinging, but yea i need to get some serious work done. When my WFO stuff comes i will get some more done.

On a 60? Not much chance of that, in fact in my experience a 35 spline Spicer shaft will usually snap before a Spicer joint.

The stub shafts are 30 spline which is the same size as a D44 inner shaft, they aren't super tough to break. Ask me how I know (on 37's):

Got the 60 installed today, kinda a PITA because i was alone, but ohwell. next i need to get another 2wd steering box cuz the threads in mine are shot, then i need to order steering arms from WFO and get my draglink and tierod shortened. thats on the list for this week, hopefully i can get it all done.

still needs to be done:
1.finish stripping inside
2.install cage
3.finish welding and grinding tons of odds and ends
4. finish tube bumper

next to buy
1. SRW hubs and rotors
2. drive flanges
3. steering arms
4. drivelines

Ordered steering arm from ORD today, i like that they drill them with two holes incase you want to do high-steer. Today i got a e-mail off craigslist from a guy who wanted to buy my DRW hubs. He wants to get rid of his SRW hubs, so i told him i would trade him stright across. Score! the only downfall is he has never done it before and he is 3+ hours north of me.
