84 Crew Cab - Project - "The Tank"

The place my mom works uses a lot of steel and they had leftovers so they sold it to me for scrap. Seems to take them forever to get it. I had been waiting for like a month.

Started on getting the frame boxed in tonight. Going to keep working on it all weekend and maybe get it done.

Running lines inside or outside of the boxed in frame?

Martin

Outside. Inside the frame would be a pain if you ever got a leak. This is also my tow rig so it wont be seeing a lot of offroading so I'm not worried about the lines being outside of the frame.

Gotcha, just curious, as I thought the same thing about it being a pain to deal with leaks and such. Could probably still running wire inside of the frame rail with a good fish.

Yes you could probably run the wires inside the frame, but from what I have seen none of the wires are inside of the frame, they are actually all mounted on the outside of the frame. Plus with this 25+ year old wiring I would like to be able to get to it just in case something happens.

Looks like a great build man:D

Thanks man!

Should have some pictures of most of the frame boxing plates in soon. I also replaced the front cross member because the cummins sets about have way in it so I just replaced it so I wouldnt have to worry about it.

Things have been busy with school so things have not been going as fast as I was hoping but I did get some shop time this past weekend.

Got the sleeves for the steering box and got them welded to the frame. Still need to drill out the boxing plate to fit around the sleeves.

Also made a new cross member for the front because the stock one has to be cut up to fit the 12v in so I decided to make a new cross member so that I can try to mount the motor lower in the frame some.

Got more plates tacked in the frame. Getting close!

That is all for this update. Hoping to get the frame done the next time I get to work on the truck. Then it will be time to put the cab back on and start making the mounts for the motor.

So today I got a few more boxed pieces made for the frame. Also welded all the nuts to the frame for my front body/spring mounts. Not going to final weld the stuff in till I get my bushings from Diy4x for the front shackles.

Shop is starting to get messy again. Probably need to clean up soon.

Haha yeah there is a lot of stuff in there I need to get rid of... But it seems like the more I clean it the more stuff that shows up.

This weekend I picked up some new bucket seats with a matching center console. They are out of a newer gm truck. Not exactly sure on the year but they seem to fit great in my truck. Just gotta get them mounted and they should be good to go. They sit a little high, but I am 6'4" and it seems to be fine for me.

Might get the frame done this weekend if I have the parts I need by then.
