I know I'm about 3 pages too late here but FWIW... My 468 is only 8.25ish with cheap procomp heads that have been machined and fitted with Manley springs and valves and comp cams pro magnum roller rockers, solid roller lifters, Ultradyne cam, and an rpm air gap intake with a crappy edelbrock 1406 carb and it still moves pretty good. I'm not sure what the builders intentions were for my motor but it worked. I know there are more BA big blocks than mine but it is still impressive. So my point is... It's a big block and no matter how much or how little you do to it it's going to make power. And that's why I like em.

Chicken roper

Sorry, we can't talk about big blocks without some name calling

^^^That might only make sense in my hometown. During the summers we were invaded by swarms of green license plates.

I've always been a fan of BBC's

I still want to grab a manifold but don't want to pay retail. I missed the hot rod swap meet a few weeks ago, probably could have scored one there.

Those bearings look a lot worse than 20k miles should be looking. I'd be dubious of that claim from the PO or take a good hard look at the oiling system, or it wasn't rebuilt in a clean room...

The receipt is dated a couple months before my buddy bought the truck so it's not a high mileage issue. Pan is clean, pump screen only had a couple pieces of rtv on it. Cam also looks good so I don't know, doesn't make much sense. Not that it matters at this point anyway.

Maybe someone didn't change the oil for a long time. Who knows. You have a mag drain bolt?

spent a few hundred at summit today buying bearings, timing chain set, harmonic balancer, fuel pump block off plate and some other misc crap I needed.

The edelbrock manifold I bought was pretty crusty so it's been in my parts washer for the last 10 days or so. Tonight I decided to pop off the thermostat housing and noticed the bolt was on a slight angle....

Craigslist......I'll probably drill it out and put a helicoil in it. Little extra right stuff should seal it.

Need to call the machine shop tomorrow, haven't heard anything about the crank work. I'm ready to get this engine buttoned up so it can join the rest of the drivetrain.
