I always thought Toyos smelled like pig poop. Great tires though! Too bad I'm dumb and didn't catch the fact that these are nittos... lol

I've had a few sets of onroad toyos and they were pretty decent. Seemed to have a wider range of sizes than some brands.

I don't care for toyo MT's they wore really poorly on my dad's Dodge. Brand new truck went through two sets in 32k miles.

These trail grappler's are pretty sweet looking tires, first time i saw a picture of them from a distance i had to look them up to see what the heck they were

I took those tires up to 85 mph in an 6.2l supercharged jku. The shitty jeep body made more noise than the tires did. The old twist test on the lugs made them seem pretty firm but they seem to wheel excellent. Good purchase!

One of the things I have been debating which I now need to look at more closely is my diff gearing with the 40's.

Here's what I'm dealing with

Tire Diameter: 40"
Diff Ratio: 4.10:1
RPM: 800
1st Gear Ratio: 2.48
T-Case Ratio: 5.33:1 (double low)
MPH: 1.8mph
Crawl Ratio: 54.2:1
2300 rpms @ 67mph

Lot's of opinions on this subject, some say with an auto you're fine with anything over 50:1, others say you need 60:1.

or jump to 5.13's

Tire Diameter: 40"
Diff Ratio: 5.13:1
RPM: 800
1st Gear Ratio: 2.48
T-Case Ratio: 5.33:1 (double low)
MPH: 1.8mph
Crawl Ratio: 67.81:1
2800 rpms @ 65mph

Part of me also says, don't f*ck with it, run it and see how I like it with the 4.10's @ 54.2:1 crawl ratio.

I hate my 4.10's with 38's. No fun on the road. But I also have a stock, and currently poor running small block. You could try it but I vote 5.13's and don't look back...

not too worried about the road so much, it's a fat pig no matter what and the BBC had enough grunt to keep me going with 37's. Obviously a 4.88 or 5.13 would waken it up considerably. I have a feeling down the road when I go 8.1 I'll also end up with a 4L80E and I'll looking to add 5.13+.

I'd say to run it like it is and see if you need more later.

I'm probably over analyzing this...... but wheeling with @bmxbryant9 and his 96:1 or whatever he has, it's ridiculous the control he has in the rocks.

Why would 5.38's be more prone to breakage over 5.13's? Both have 8 pinion teeth. Seems like I do remember the 14 bolt gears being under cut (correct term?) in to the stem a little.

5.38's really kill my freeway mph, at 3K rpms I'm doing 66mph. And I won't be turning 3K on the freeway for a long period. With the 4L80e it's about perfect but that's down the road.

and FWIW, Stephen @ORD said he likes his 4.88's with the same th400/241/205 on 40's. For a highway/offroad truck that is.....

No way I'd look at anything numerically lower than 5.13 with an overdrive trans. I suppose with a 454 you could get away with a little higher gear but my buddy's K30 with 40s and 4.56 gears has to start in granny low. It will start in first but you gotta rev the motor up and ride the clutch a tad. It has a stock TBI350.

I love my 5.13 with 37s and overdrive trans.
