So are you going to run the timing control from the start? The Holley instructions actually recommend getting the system running without so it doesn't add to potential startup issues/troubleshooting.

I've read somewhere that it's better to fire the engine on the stock distributor, I still may do that.

I see you went with an XS starter; I was tempted.

No I think it's the same one you have, the box appears to be marketing the XS model though.

Ah okay. Curious to hear what these little guys sound like.

I'm on the fence about distributors. I was thinking about getting a Holley dual sync distributor that will play really well with the EFI but it's about $70 more than the MSD you're using. I was also thinking about just getting a Summit RTR distributor now and then lock it out later for the timing control.

Part of my quandry is thinking about how to set the plug wires' lengths on the HEI cap but also make sure they'll work on the smaller cap distributor.

I'm pretty sure it's the same one we have on the 57, sounds bitchin.

What does the Holley dual sync do that the MSD doesn't? I would think a locked out distributor is just that and nothing more.....

Should be as simple as adding an inch of wire right? Just make sure your firing order is right before cutting though :rotfl:

I think the first thing that got my interest is the Holley dual sync plug right into the harness. Aside from that it has both cam and crank sensors.

I just figured Holley would have programming in the EFI for their own distributor. Maybe I'm just falling for the hype. :dunno:

Sorry to hijack your thread with my musings

you're not hijacking at all :D

The MSD I bought plugs right into the FiTech harness which is partially why I wanted it.

I'm not too familiar with the Holley stuff but I would think the EFI directs the distributor. Some distributors you can program however that would mean the EFI itself does not control the timing.

Extended the fuel pump wire off the FiTech harness so that's all wired now. I'll run the sender wire with the taillights later.

Found a location for the wideband O2 bung, drilled the hole and I'll burn that in tonight.

Received studs to mount the FiTech along with a new air cleaner with a taller base and got that mounted last night.

Rims should be done this weekend

Off the top of my head here is the list for this weekend:
1) Strip, patch and paint the firewall white.
2) Drop the trans pan and install the Derale temp sensor, add trans fluid.
3) Add engine oil, prime engine and adjust rockers.
4) Drop in distributor, wires and new plugs
5) Clean rad support, rattle can as needed.
6) Install radiator, radiator hoses, add coolant.
7) Install & plumb Derale trans cooler
8) figure out how the fck I'm going to get the cab back on the chassis :screwy:
9) Mount battery box on firewall, run power wires, grounds, starter wires, alternator etc.
10) add gear oil to both cases
11) All the shit I'm missing....
Squish Bang? :saweet:

and pics because everyone loves pics

Is there a connection for the PCV on the FiTech. I don't think you should just leave that taped over.

If you lived near me, I could run over with our crane truck and help with the cab.

yes, I have a PCV valve somewhere that ties into the throttle body.

a crane, forklift, tractor etc would make this job easy. Somehow I think it may end up being some caveman engineering with friends, beer and hi-lift jacks

@82355 asked if the lines and numbers on the summit pulley were hard to read. It was a little difficult on the 52 so I bought a timing tape from summit and stuck that on. Mucho betta

Like that tape idea! might have to get some for the wife's 67 since it's a mutt trucks with multi parts from different years.

Might also paint the inside lines on the tab, or at least the zero, with black paint or something to contrast the orange.

I bought one of those tapes but I can't remember where I put it. :what:
