On the subject of coils... Once upon a time a user on this site was also an employee of MSD, when he saw I was using the typical Blaster 2 coil mounted horizontally (in my build thread) he made the following recommendation -

Reason: The Blaster canister style coils are oil filled for cooling. When you lay the coil down sideways you create an air bubble in the oil exposing the coil windings. When these coil windings heat up they will break down and cause the coil to fail.

You may hear many people saying they've done it that way with no issues but I'd hate to see a coil fail on you in the middle of nowhere on a trail.

If you are dead set on using a round canister style coil like that use MSD part number 8222. This coil is epoxy filled and not oil filled. If you want the best coil; bang for your buck to mount in that same spot look into the Blaster SS coil part number 8207.

This coil is more powerful; more efficient and can be mounted anywhere in any position... That last part sounds a little dirty. Keep with me boys we're still talkin coils!

Adjust the rotor? Not following you on that......or you mean the collar?

I remember reading some posts from that member at one point. I always knew the stock ones needed to be upright, didn't know why.....now I know. I have an oil filled coil and a bracket from MSD, my plan was to mount it upright on the firewall somewhere. That reminds me, I need to find the coil wire that came with my taylor wire set.
 
Yeah, too much of a pita for my brain though. Me need simple.
 
I didn't know there was another way to do it. All the instructions I've seen use the adjustable rotor. Maybe it's a difference between Holley and FiTech setups.

I found it recommended in the directions from FiTech too. Called the old man and he said he used one on the El Camino, he cant remember if it had one or he had to buy one. Thank you for pointing that out.
 
I asked because I'm thinking I'll buy a standard MSD distributor to start out on the Sniper. Once it's running good, I'll get the locked out distributor you're using and put the first MSD in the '66. I was already planning to upgrade the ignition in the '66 as soon as the 454 is squared away so this kinda kills 2 birds with 2 distributors. Wait, that doesn't sound all that efficient. :thinking: :rotfl:
 
I confirmed an adjustable rotor does not come with the distributor. I ordered one from summit, should be here tomorrow.

I'm recycling some parts off the K10 to C10 too.
 
I hope you make it to Blazer Bash. I feel like we're 454 aftermarket efi buddies. Gotta see it in person now.
