84 K20 "Ethel" Not an Sbc/NV4500/241C

Semi restoration of a 1984 K20 pickup. 5.3 LS, nv4500, np241c.
Big tank under for the win. I had one in the bed, good location unless you want to use it for anything other than wheeling
My old '77 1 ton camper special 2 wd 454 had a 32 gallon IH semi fuel tank in the bed. It was a decent size. Roughly 2'x2'x12". I welded some angle iron to it and bolted it to the floor. I used a piece of strap steel for a dipstick to check how much fuel I had .

Mission success! No issues and only two spots where no lockers were a hindrance.. View attachment 208135This truck simply amazes me..
Just to let everyone know that is not rock rash on the door... that's chain link gate rash...
BTW Ethel ran extremely well with the dirty c leading her down a shitty trail..
surprised me she got threw 4 real bad spots... that girl sounds like a street sweeper in crawl mode

I have an oil pressure gauge now! This is a cold (lol yea right) idle on a 95 degree day. Is this pretty good for a high miles motor?

Oh and I also discovered I have a leaky hose on my ac system. So I have to try and find barrier hose somewhere around here and the special clamps..

Not sure what normal is, but mine both sit pretty close to there (no gauge on the CUCV, so I'm not sure what it runs). The blue truck has an interesting issue where at warm idle on some days the gauge will slowly peg. Anything above idle will bring it slowly back to normal, but at idle it climbs. On other days it's perfectly steady. No idea why. :dunno:

Installed new front brake pads, man those old pads where trashed, both sides the pads had moved into a position where the pad was only part way on the disc.. the new pads fit much better and stop a million times better also.
I watched the oil pressure going up the big hill, it stays above 40 the whole time and only briefly saw 30 when idling in some traffic. So I think its good.

@bergerking is going to help me weld the diffs up Thursday, I know I know.. I have a d70 on the side Ill build up for this some time, for now its on trail duty until the blazer is done.. then its onto tow duty.

I have never driven a truck with a welded rear diff on the street. How do they do? I have only driven an old cj with a locker in the back a little and it wasn't bad just tires chirping around corners always. I was thinking of welding the 14 bolt in my blazer or since it would have to come apart any way just doing a mini spool until I can get real lockers some day.

Pretty much the same. They chirp around tight corners, drive throughs are obnoxious. Other than that, pretty much like any other truck once you're moving. But unstoppable and very predictable off road, which is why I like it. No guessing whether or not your diff is gonna lock up at any given second...

Hell on tires, shitty trying to park in a tight parking lot, great off road.
